YouTube is deleting videos on Nazi history as part of its hate speech crackdown Teachers have filed complaints because they’ve used these videos to teach lessons in European history and WWII Basically YouTube is trying to censor and rewrite history. The reason they are doing this, is that if nobody knows what Hitler and the National Socialists really did, they can blur the definition of what it means to be a “nazi” and make it easier to get away with applying to anyone. When the powers that be start deleting history, we are bound to repeat it again. This is why we don’t EVER delete history.
My interpretation of your article is that youtube has started banning pro-Nazi and holocaust denial videos (how you feel about that is up to you) and as a consequence of their algorithm, has unintentionally deleted some Nazi history videos. I didn't read anything about their intentions behind banning pro-Nazi material. It is implied that they did this because they do not want hate speech on their site (it is also stated that this is not an excuse for accidentally censoring historical videos). My take-home message from the article: Youtube should tweak their algorithms, because even accidental censorship from a big company makes a significant impact.
@6-eyed shaman, I don't think I'll ever understand why you want to associate with that sort of thing and bring this sort of criticism on yourself. i feel kind of bad, but my interpretation is not that free speech is in jeopardy or something. It's like leaps and bounds in the right direction, nothing under the bus and a few videos; history lessons, are accidentally effected. I don't think you're a bad guy. I think that you're smart, and you have a good heart when it comes down to it. I wish you wouldn't side with this element. It keeps us from being more amicable.
I saw something in regards to this earlier and your analysis is accurate. I believe youtube has even since reinstated some of the history videos after appeals. However, I don't think this is a good look for youtube. Having users need to appeal to get videos retroactively reinstated is bogus and makes some of those banned or demonitized from the platform seem like sympathetic figures.
Thank you. The problem with the hate speech laws that defining what is hateful can be very subjective. What is considered inoffensive to some, is offensive and hateful to others. So it becomes a real complicated mess when it comes to defining and enforcing hate speech laws. For example the mere imagery of Hitler and the Nationals Socialists offends some people, and they consider it hate speech in ANY context. Which is why YouTube took action to pull these videos. I think you’re a good spirited person too SoulCompromise. I just wish you and the rest of the forum weren’t part of the censorship party
There are also some independent journalists who were impacted as well. I learned about this guy Ford Fischer who seems to basically just film protest events and marches without really any of his own commentary and he got demonitized.
the left here will never get it. many yinz are not youtube creators. nor does it effect them.. anything you say to them 6 they hear you as alex jones.
Your statement that this was deliberately done to "blur" the definition of what it means to be a Nazi is unsupported by evidence. You've made an assertion about motive that you need to prove. I think it's ironic that you, of all people, are expressing concern about blurring the definition of what it means to be a Nazi, since you do it so often in your posts.
The stuff being deleted is the white nationalist/supremacist crap being produced by trashy cretins of sub whale dung intelligence.
You're on their data base now. Case File #24 - Tumbling Dice, Tennessee Nazi I don't have to worry about that as I'm sure my IP is already logged into some controversial data base. Baha
Why would YouTube ban holocaust denial videos and also ban historical videos in an attempt to erase history and make it easier for people to blur the definition of nazi? If YouTube wanted to blur the definition of nazi or erase history wouldn't it be helpful to their cause to leave the holocaust denial videos up? Asking for a friend
YouFreeMe is right. There's far too much content on YouTube to enable human review for everything. They have two tools they can use, AI for detecting hate speech, which may need to be refined, or human review, which only happens to some videos. They'll often remove things first. I wouldn't be surprised if kids not wanting to do their homework reported the video. I would have done the same. "Can't do homework. Youtube removed the video" or because some algorithms need to be tweaked, you're being oppressed by big tech.
There is real history, but then there is fake history--just as there is fake news. YouTube makes it possible to be exposed to both. Any troll and his dog could put together whatever view of the past suits their fancy and put it out there for kiddies to watch. Distinguishing between the two is a challenge. I put a lot of emphasis on credentials. What is the historian's vita like? What has (s)he published, especially in peer reviewed sources? What are the reviews like? Does the historian have a good reputation in the discipline? Etc. If YouTube fails us, there are, of course, other more reliable sources of historical information--books, for example. Maybe the teachers should broaden the range of their sources and not become overly dependent on a private platform.
I read a comment on Steven Molyneux' channel that said that we should all move to bitchute on the 4th of July to claim independence from these media conglomerates' attempts to censor us.
There is more ; so much more available than (((you tube))) . Mr. Molyneux makes a good point ; bit chute being just one participant in the alt media . The deletions were not of basic Nazi type documentaries but of those questioning what is considered factual. Vids of Ernst Zundl , Ulla Haverboeck and a few others have been banned.
