Granted, the 2024 White House Race is going to be ANYTHING but smooth-sailing.

You KNOW (of course) that it will be rife with cheap pot-shots, mud-slinging, and immature behavior.

ANY semblence of decorum and decent behavior will indeed be a soothing balm, that will indeed be needed.

That being said, what are your views on the 2024 presidential race?

Do you think that the Dems will emerge victorious?

Or, do you see the Republicans once again "taking the helm"?

What do you see coming in 2024?

And what are you hoping for?

While I agree with @Piobaire I do think it is far too early to predict the outcome of anything in the next few months.

As society races ever onwards into novelty, and chaos, so much could happen in the very near future that would preclude any well-thought prediction.

    Anything could happen!

    ...and probably will.

Why would it be anything else but a shit show? Ain't nobody changing this channel, folks... I can't wait for the thousands of screaming shock and hate adds for the GOP candidates. You won't see a single one running on policy or accomplishments.

    I see this...
    Biden/Newsom ticket.

That'll scare the bejesus out of the republicans.
Yes, Gavin Newsom has said he's not going to run for President.... but maybe Vice president?

This way, Biden can step down anytime and then Newsom is prez!

It's an unbeatable ticket. Young people and progressives will flock to them. Old people too since Biden will continue as long as he can.

And Newsom's appointment of a gay black woman as senator to replace Feinstein will get the LGBT, and more black votes.

He can then appoint the VP I think. So he could put a black woman in that spot!

    That's interesting, @Toker
I have found myself being drawn to Gavin Newsome. I wish I could feel more excitement around Kamala Harris. I just don't feel the same chemistry that I saw with Obama & Biden. I like Biden. I like what he's done, and I wish all the best for him. I am not as troubled by his age but it seems I am in the minority on that.

I do know this - enough from history - it is very hard to predict who will rise to the top of the list of candidates. That sure played out in 2016. Who would have ever thought that Trump would rise to the top and create this massive following? Remember? There were 16 candidates for president in that campaign. And Jeb Bush was one of the early leaders - but he showed poorly - so polite - against the onslaught of insults and name calling that became Trump's brand. I still can't believe what I saw. And then, the political wheels began to turn. Clinton made her own mistakes - and the media when nuts over it all - it was like a drug.

I also remember the year that McCain ran for president. When he started out, he was at the bottom of the pile - and then, like turning on a dime, he suddenly became the chosen candidate. Unfortunately, the GOP decided to push a different agenda than McCain himself seemed to want.

So we just don't know what can or will happen. At this point, Trump seems unbeatable among the clowns - I mean - candidates.
This election cycle seems, though - more than I ever remember - that our constitution and our country seems more on the line than any other time.
There was once a time - when you got a new president - whether he was your choice or not - it was not the end of the world - they went about their agenda and we survived. This time - it just feels different.

The choice of Newsom would of course be helped greatly when he announces that he's actually a bi black woman, speaks fluent Spanish, is an HIV positive paraplegic and is autistic.

I thought Coach covered all the bases. LOL. One thing missing is the need to install kitty litter boxes in the White House bathrooms once elected.

‘An end of American democracy’: Heather Cox Richardson on Trump’s historic threat

"(A second Trump term would mean) an end of American democracy. I have absolutely no doubt about that, and he’s made it very clear. You look at Project 2025, which is a thousand pages on how you dismantle the federal government that has protected civil rights, provided a basic social safety net, regulated business and promoted infrastructure since 1933. The theme of his 2024 campaign is retribution. I don’t think people understand now that, if Donald Trump wins again, what we’re going to put in power is those people who want to burn it all down."

“The question going into 2024 is: will people understand that Biden has created a government that does work for the people? Whether or not you like its policies personally, he is trying to use that government to meet the needs of the people in a way that the Republicans haven’t done since 1981. He is a transformative president. Whether or not it’s going to be enough, we’re going to find out in 14 months.”

I'm reading and seeing a lot of thoughts on Joe Biden; that he should step aside and not run for reelection and let someone else run to finish what he started. I just watched some clips Bill Mahar put out from his podcast and his show, with James Carville, calling Joe Biden to step aside or risk becoming Ruth Bader Biden...
I fear what will happen to this country - and the world - if Trump is elected again. Biden has constantly faced an uphill battle in favorability ratings all along - yet, he has accomplished so much to correct the fallout of our economy following COVID, our relationships with others around the world, standing up against dictators and fighting for democracy everywhere... yet, we struggle at home, we struggle at our southern border, we struggle to balance things.
The Republicans have thrown us into chaos. The House is divided and might as well be burning.
Yet, it feels like we are heading toward the end.
Am I being too dramatic here?
    Give me some hope.

Why do you think Republicans keep nominating cretins like Tuberville, Jordan, Gaetz, Taylor-Greene, Boebert, and Herschel Walker (et al.)?
They're saboteurs; their only goal is to destroy America from within until it's as factionalized, impotent, and dysfunctional as Weimar. Then when they finally set their Reichstag alight, they'll loudly blame Democrats, and proffer an authoritarian savior who'll proclaim, "I am your retribution!"

    Papa:

No, my friend, you are NOT being dramatic in the least, IMHO.

What is going on today in our country....WITH our country, is becoming more and more serious....and frightening.....with each poassing today.

Democracy is fighting valiantly for basic survival, nowadays; so much that we hold dear (and often take for granted) could very well be taken from us.

The lies, the deceit, the blatant immaturity, the tantrum-throwing, the lies (oh, forgive me.....it's all FAKE news!):D:p

I cannot recall a time in our country, in my memory, when we are all so divided, all so opinionated, so blatantly smug and arrogant, with little or no respect shown to our fellow Americans, let alone common courtesy.

The cheap pot shots at Mr. Biden (who, of course, was not there to defend himself) made by a few mindless morons at the recent Republican debate were truly uncalled for....and the height of disrespect.

Political-wise, our country now seems as though it has jumped right up off the pages of the cheapest of supermarket tabloids.

The mud-slinging, the childish name-calling, and the "up in your face" arrogance of far too many on Capitol Hill has truly sunk our great nation into a quagmire of tremendous proportions.

Mr. Biden, it is clear, has certainly aged this past year; yes, I know he is now in his 80's, but the weariness of the past two years is clearly defined on his face.

Never before was I ever afraid of an election year; 2024 truly has me fearful.

    God help us all........

The country will end up with two meatheads as nominees that 95% of America doesn't want to have to vote for.
