man this is pretty confusing. Basically everyone here is American! So a major is a degree over there then? I'll be starting a single honours degree in history later this year.
ahhh....forgot they dont have majors over there! No a major is your concentrated study, what you are focusing on......you can get a Bachelors degree in Buisness, for example, or a Masters degree in Chemistry or a PhD in Psychiatry, etc... what will your singles honour degree be in? what are you studying?
Major: Anthropology with a focus on biological anthropology Minor: American Studies (comb. of geography, history, cultural anthropology, and politics of the Western Hemisphere) So I can do 1 of 3 things: 1. Study and work for the conservation of primates 2. Work for social change, focusing on oppression and indigenous peoples 3. Teach
This is going to be a long answer for a simple question: I started off as a political science major. I decided that Poli Sci just wasn't my cup of tea. I then declared Communications with an emphasis on Public Relations as my choice for a major. A semester later, I slightly altered it to Marketing. After that, I decided University wasn't right for me. I went to a community college where I started to get my associates in Sonography (ultrasound tech). I'm still at the community college, but I've dropped out of the sonography program and am taking some econ & accounting classes. I'm heading back to the 4 year school this summer to get my degree (hopefully in less than 2 years) in Accounting with a minor in Econ. I actually doubt, in the end, I will have a degree in either of those things. It's my plan of the semester....
i was originally majoring in elementary education, but then i examined my mother's life and decided it wasn't for me. she taught for thirteen years in public elementary schools. she was puked on by children several times because the secretary didn't want to get sick and wouldn't let them sit in the office. several times, she had children who came to school with new bruises once a week. DHS ignored her phone calls most every time, which was very emotionally disturbing to her. she was forced by dubya to teach ONLY standardized test material. her brain, which had been very sharp, went to mush after so many years of no stimulation. her bosses never took the teachers' concerns into consideration. her health suffered in several ways because of the district's policies on bathroom breaks and snacks and drinks for teachers. she had to deal with difficult parents at least once a week, some of them dangerous. at one school, she taught the child of a woman on parole who had been in prison for attempted murder. she was never told by the administration that this was the case. she had to wait and see it on the local news. SOOOOO.....after considering all this, i've switched my major to women's studies. perhaps with that degree i can get a job that will, somewhere along the line, help get the wheels of change in motion for women like her. btw....i'm a HUGE supporter of the public schools, and i think teachers who care are some of the noblest people out there.
I'm an anthropology major w/ a focus in archaeology and a philosophy minor (possible second major eventually). I'm hoping I can boost my GPA and get some grants to do future summer field work all over the world.
Conservation Major Business? Minor I don't think I need to explain why I chose my major, but I spent almost 4 years working on an associates in business management at a community college. I don't want those classes to go to waste.
HVAC (Heating, Ventalation, and Air Conditioning). I'm going into it because it has good pay, it's high in demand, and I like physical labor. With the two year degree you start out at somewhere between 30 to 35,000, but with an engineering degree (4 years) people usually start out at about 55 to 60,000 a year, so that's what I'll be doing.
I'm only 15 so my major is a ways off..but I would like to double major in Psychology and Philosophy and minor in Religious Studies so when i get into arguments with religious people i'm armed to the teeth (metaphorically)
?????? hmm looks like you might learn something about yourself. nontheless, that's a pretty shallow reason to want to learn about religious studies.
My major is journalism. I want to write op-ed pieces, as I'm always willing to give my opinions. However, I may double major in art.
