Some topics I have no interests in are certain sports , religious subjects (I'm not religious) & topics others like to discuss even if I say I'm not interested & they just go ahead & keep talking about it. I may make out I'm interested but are totally bored listening to stuff I have no interest in. Then I try & change the topic to something I do have interests in that they might.
Sports I simply cannot talk about sports because they do not interest me. It makes me feel uncomfortable when people bring up sports around me, because I have nothing to say, and in America, you're just not normal if you're a guy and don't like sports. In fact, you're probably gay. Partisan political issues I simply cannot stoop to the level of discussing mainstream media talking points. Everything people talk about regarding politics is what they heard on the news, and I am so far away from that line of thinking at this point. Religion I work around a lot of black people, most of which are heavily religious. I, of course, am very much NOT religious, so it makes me uncomfortable when people start quoting from the bible, or proselytizing to me. Jehovah's Witnesses are the worst, but I try to be respectful because these are people I work with and have respect for, even though I don't agree with their religious beliefs.
Oh, I really enjoy talking about abortion, since it is one of the few issues I don't have a very distinct opinion on. And I like politics, sometimes. I like "big picture" politics.
I like to talk about pretty much anything. My interests have been greatly varied over the years, so I have a little knowledge about many subjects. In any discussion though, I tend to bow out when people start to get unreasonable and offensive/offended. I don't like talking about sports that much, though. I used to enjoy (real) football so I know a little about it, but the people I work with tend to just go on and on about it, to the point where I will end my break early and go back to work because I'm so bored with the conversation.
Sports is a big thing I just don't give a f**k about. Also don't really care about most celebrities. I especially don't care about Lindsay Lohan or any of the Kardashians. I don't give a shit about American politics - which seems to dominate mainstream media even in New Zealand.
I used to hate when I was working, and the conversation was " which way did you take to get here today?" or how was the traffic ?? - or "Whats the weather suppossed to be like today? or this week-end??- -Mundane bullshit ,from mundane co-workers who had nothing to say :gossip:. Most of who couldn't have a intelligent debate or conversation if you gave them a newspaper and asked them to pick an article Man, I couldn't agree more !!- - They,re a few other subjects--but Id rather not talk about them-
Myself Relationships Sex Sport Gardening Motor Racing (F1 - Bikes etc) Mind Trips > Psychedelics > Synthetic Drugs Communism Watergate Vietnam WW I and II (and the possibility of WW III) There are a few more, but you get the general idea, and I probably didn't mention them because I've probably talked about it, just not that much.
Revolution, the vague kind like we always seem to need a revolution but when I ask what kind at least half of the time the answer is another hippie revolution. BLAH! If you yell about revolution at least know what you want in the first place... Humanity's enlightening as a whole/age of aquarius jibberish etc. I'm sorry, we do not all evolve spiritually at the same time. I get already tired when I think of having to get into debate about this again
Holy crap, this. If someone starts to talk about celebrities in any context except how they loathe people who talk about celebrities, I won't want to have anything to do with that person ever again.
I love pointing out the people who get their panties in a twist over the most trivial celebrity facts. What I am often encountering (on this forum alone several times) are self proclaimed critical and openminded people who ramble about Lady Gaga for instance in a thread against commercial music or the mainstream music industry or artists whoring with their fame and appearance, then conclude their post with something like: and she is ugly as fuck. Wow, you are really openminded and sincere about music and appearances
people high on weed talking about other times they were on weed, future times they may be on weed, the price or quality of the weed they happen to be on. people high on ketamine trying to describe what its like to be high on ketamine (seriously, this conversation lasted for hours and went nowhere. i wanted to claw my way out of my own skull to escape.) gossip. Particularly where it doesn't pertain to me or anyone that i know. i know a girl who insists on talking about her office politics every time i see her, i don't know any of these people, neither does anyone else here, why do you assume i'm interested? all celebrity gossip falls into the above category. other people's sex lives my sex life people who wish they lived in the sixties/seventies/eighties people who insist that music used to be good and now isn't people who insist that film used to be good and now isn't feminism. not because i don't support feminism, but because so much of the discussion appears to be dominated by straw men set up by fools who have never even listened to/read any genuine feminist arguments. conspiracy theories as anything other than social commentary transport. In london, talking about transport is the ecquivalent of talking about weather, its conversational filler. the weathers always shit but transport occasionally breaks, so we can have a moan about it. space. not always, there's a lot of interesting stuff about space, i just find that a lot of the conversations i hear about it tend to be about scale, and since the scale is impossible to comprehend, i find it hard to take an interest. earthly matters interest me more. Sports is a big one for me, i can barely contain my indifference to pretty much all team sports. ones which focus on individual development like climbing, archery and particularly martial arts, which i'm very interested in, are cool, but the competitive element leaves me cold. i don't give a shit who won a karate tournament in a certain year, but more than happy to learn about the history and development of the discipline. "spiritual" things. not religion, which has enough blood, guts an philosophy to hold my attention, but conversations about auras, energy, consciousness and the fact that the world is in a delicate balance and we should all be in a commune with natuuuuuuuuuurghhhhhhhhhhblahblahblahblah. no. i'm gone. imperialist culture-raping wishy-washy nonsense. on a side note, one thing that really annoys me is that a few people i know, whenever there is an awkward silence or pause in conversation, say "sooo...anyone read any good books lately?" in a sarcastic way, as if this is the very last thing to talk about, the dullest topic of conversation only to be used as a last resort. Kinda makes me sad because i'm always interested in what other people are reading and what they make of it, i think its a shame that its seen as such a lame, taboo, subject, whereas people seem more than happy to tell me at length about Manchester city's chances of winning the premiership and that's just fine...
Sports and politics. I don't give two shits about sports and politics is just too touchy of a subject.
