I got the second record in my K-TEL "The hot ones" collection a couple days ago!! (A collection of 70s hits)

Months ago I found the first one (No jacket) but the 2nd one was cracked!! (So I only got the first record)

Today I found the whole jacket! (With both records in it) I only got the jacket and 2nd record though as I already have the first!

I was worried when I saw that they both had a # on them (56) as K-TEL started doing this after they came back from bankrupty in the late 80s and MOST OF THIER RECORDS WITH A # ON THEM SOUND LIKE CRAP! (Low audio, not much bass, etc)

However this K-TEL record HAD THE SAME DESIGN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RECORD as the one I have so i was hopefull this was an EARLIER RELEASE they just added "56" to...... (The newer re-issues have a different design)

I brought it home and listenend to it,ITS GEORGEOUS SOUNDING on some songs but crappy on others!! (If i can find the original ill be getting it)

I dunno exactly what happend to K-TEL but its quite sad....... (When they came back from bankrupty the quality of thier records went TO CRAP!!)

Because cheapo crap compilations worked from dodgy down generation master tapes and banged out as many as they could from the same stampers. You're better off finding proper releases of the tunes you like.

Took delivery today of this Funk classic. Quality 1st official reissue since 1973 from original master tapes.

Well what I think they started doing is using the DIGITAL MASTERS when they came back in the late 80s which do not sound as good!!!!! (On K-TEL records (alot of them) it says this on the jacket "K-TEL music products are produced from the highest quality material available at the same manufactoring facilities by the major labels")

When they first starting making records in the 60s and 70s THE ONLY MATERIAL THEY HAD WAS THE ANALOG MASTERS!! -- In the late 80s alot of stuff was DIGITALISED and they most likely used that either because they didnt have the original OR THEY THOUGHT THAT WAS BETTER (Which it is NOT by a long shot) -- The #s on the re-issues probably signify which plant the record was made at.. (Originally they made them all AT THE SAME PLANT so there were NO NEED TO # THEM)

    Seems plausable to me!!

    Anyway,

    I got 2 records today :)

    1) Styx - Cornerstone
    2) Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge over troubled water

    * - I found a FIRST PRESSING of this 78 -- The one I had didnt sound as good and had a skip @ the very end of the first song.. (Rudolph the red nosed reindeer) -- RED COLUMBIA LABEL (Sounds better than the re-press I had of this (As most original pressings do))
