I was just hearing about the serious heatwave in Europe (and BTW on a serious note, our hearts really go out to you, stay strong ). But they said in the United States media only 1% of you have air conditioning. That's what we cool ourselves with in the United States, in case you don't know. You don't have air conditioning! Dear God! I live on a fixed income in the USA. And even I have central air conditioning. What gives with you people? EDIT: AND BTW where I live, the state of Michigan, certainly every place of business has central air. The board of health doesn't require it. But they still do. And Michigan is in the north. It doesn't even get that hot usually. Now, talk about the South, where it's typically hot and humid. And don't get me started on Texas. And you don't in Europe????
I have a ten year old car and only used the air conditioning for the 3rd time . We just dont need it normally
I don’t like either the sound or effect of having AC to use 68. Plus they can be more expensive to use than heaters. So Thanks. But no thanks!
Maybe one fan is enough, in case the weather gets hot. Much simpler and cheaper than an air conditioner.
If our grandchildren had even the faintest inkling of the future we've prepared for them, they'd murder us all in our beds. The terrifying truth: Britain’s a hothouse, but one day 40C will seem cool | Bill McGuire
In addition to cooling, air conditioning's main function is dehumidification. How can europeans keep all their antiques and heirlooms in good condition without proper moisture control?
Our 2 day heatwave record high temperatures return to normal tomorrow, so most people understandably feel it's not worth the expense of air con for just a handful of days a year.
We have an air conditioner in our bedroom. But... Hey, we live in Córdoba, where the heat starts in November and runs until March. If we lived in the UK... nor would we bother to buy one.
Unless these heat waves become more common due to global warming then air conditioning will never be needed in the UK . Despite the over dramatisation by our Media News outlets it only lasted 2 days . This was due to air moving northwards from Africa. This isnt climate change for the UK as such but a one off .
Wouldn't be too sure, given 'global warming' and whilst not air-conditioning per se, I do have and use one of these.
London Fire Brigade typically responds to about 500 calls on a busy day. Yesterday they responded to more than 2,600, including more than a dozen fires; their busiest day since WWII.
