This can be applied to a lot of things now that being environmentally-friendly is "in". It irks me, too, that your Wal-Marts and your plastic food companies are making people think they're doing something terribly important but shouldn't we just be grateful for even the smallest steps? It's up to those of us who give it a little more thought to lead by example.
