I saw a lady jump off the casino a year ago, total scarred me for awhile, she was like 20 feet from me.

I know its a depressing subject but anybody witness one? And did it mindfuck you?

Never witnessed one (thankfully) but I have a friend who found his best friend/roommate in their house after he shot himself in the head with a shotgun. That was well over 20 years ago and it still affects him. He doesn't talk about it much but I know it was pretty gruesome and even seeing paint splatted a certain way triggers memories for him. I honestly think part of his life stopped that day. He has no ambition to do anything more than what he absolutely has to do and he also has a sort of odd personality. He's not a dangerous person at all but I suspect his issues stem from finding his friend.

In a cruel twist of fate, last year one of his brothers committed suicide (cut his wrists and bled out) and his other brother was the one who found him. My friend was thankful he didn't have to see it but also very concerned for his little brother who did.

I have a friend who found her mom after an attempted suicide. She od'd on pills and my friend wasn't entirely sure if she was dead or alive when she found her. The worst part is her mom knew my friend would the one to find her when she came home from school that day.

My friend has had problems with severe depression her whole adult life and I think a lot of it has to do with how her mom used her own depression and suicidal tendencies as a weapon against my friend growing it.

It can't be an easy thing to recover from. She was lucky she found ger mom still alive at least.

    No. Thankfully.

I did share a place with a guy who's bro committed suicide. My friend was the last person he talked to and my friend kinda said some shitty things to him. He got The Call a few hours later. Gods, it still weighs on him like a ton of bricks.

My father once rescued my great aunt from hanging herself.

Oh yeah...the dude next door killed himself a few years ago. Hung himself in his garage out back. It wasn't a complete shock since he tried to get the cops to shoot him a few weeks prior. But it was shitty that he did it in front of the windows of the garage right next to the driveway. His wife looks over while leaving for work that morning and saw him hanging there. That was pretty rough and obviously very hard on her. I felt terrible for her. They had 5 kids too.

A homosexual committed suicide early on in Clinton's cadency. He was cheated on by his friend for that un-darling Art. What did he feel; but shook the land lord who was my Sri-lankan friend. He died for a sexual experience. But there never will be as good a homosexual parade as there was that year, 1993.

Uhhmmm, you do know that many forms of depression are biological in nature and hereditary?
Don't dismiss your friends depression as situational, her depression could have a physiological source, more likely with a family history.

One early morning, about 2 AM, a cop came to my uncles door and told him the lights were on in the business in which he worked. I was about 17 and lived with my uncle and aunt, so I got up and went with him and the cop to check it out. My uncle unlocked the door and we entered. When we got into the back room, his mechanic was swinging from a rope tied to a ceiling beam. He was still alive, gurgling and kicking and my uncle pulled his knife and cut the guy down. I got light headed and had to sit down for a bit. The guy survived and came back to work after a few days. Marital troubles, as I recall.

My step gramps shot himself to end the pain of cancer that was eating him up. My gramma found him. He was in the hospital for a couple of days and then passed. He was a vet--WW2, and could have been treated in a veterans hospital, but the chickenshit hometown doctor talked my gramma into keeping him home to be treated. He didn't want to lose a patients money is what the grownups in the family figured out later.

i really don't believe in hereditary depression or mental illness. I think of mental illness as more of a reflection of the sick state of our society. a healthy dose of love will fix people right up. pills aren't the answer, love is.

though some people are so isolated and so far from love that they won't be able to receive the help they need.

one time, the brother of this girl who was a childhood friend that I also dated killed himself. somehow I got talked into attending the funeral. both of our parents were there, and most of her family and extended friends. I was like, this is some fucked up shit right here.

When I was in 3rd grade the train used pass our school everyday and one day some guy jumped in front of it as it passed by. I remember the train stopped and cops were all around. Eventually they moved the train and I saw them using multiple body bags to pick his remains which were scattered along the tracks.

Exactly, this is what I keep telling people. But people that are depressed also need to give love, and to not just think about themselves. I never knew one person that was helped by anti-depressants-in fact, everybody I've known that took them just got worse and worse. Love is the answer for everything.

I don't know if I would say that. I think they are very much real things. But I also believe that they would be RIDICULOUSLY easier to live with and more bearable, with said love, and being shown how to love others. And I agree that pills aren't the answer.

I've never witnessed a suicide but suicide has always been a deep humanitarian concern of mine. I became suicidal and so now, I have a little experience with the sort of things that go on in that unbelievably difficult and complex condition. I started calling suicidality "Hell's torture". I did survive self-immolation but it wasn't a suicidal act, in and of itself. It's more complicated than that.

I think it's never easy to witness the harrowing side of life. It's not easy being the harrowing side of life.

    Horror.

There's a gravestone by the train tracks in my neighborhood, for the teenager who died there years ago. I sometimes stop at that place, in silence. And just wonder.
