If you were to plan out days where you would be doing a yoga practice and also running (3-5 miles). Would you run before or after your yoga practice?
Assuming when you say yoga you mean yoga asana...through trial and error this is what works for me; If I do it in the morning, asana practice first running second. If I do it in the evening running first asana practice second.
As a runner and a yoga instructor, I run and follow up with yoga. Post-run stretching will help quicken recovery and keep muscles from tightening up. This order will also let you get the most out of each activity; you won't be tired for your run and you'll get just as many if not more benefits out of yoga starting with warmed up muscles. Of course this advice comes from a purely physiological base. If you like to wake your mind up with yoga in the morning, consider doing a couple sun salutations and then running and following up with a more dense yoga practice. **You should never stretch cold! If you are doing yoga in the morning, start slowly and go with a flow-style practice. Stretching too deeply without proper warm up can lead to torn muscles and weeks of rehabilitation. Happy runs!
I dont run anymore but when I did I liked to do yoga in the morning and run at night, but i always do some quick yoga stretches after a run too.
