Which album do you like better?? I havent heard THE YES ALBUM but I just got an 8 track of FRAGILE and its insanely good!!!!! I had been hearing HOW GOOD this album is and I finally got a copy of it I had heard 2 songs off this album before ('Roundabout' and 'Long distance runaround') Man oh man..... The LAST song on my 8 track "South side of the sky" is insane!!!!!! (As is the whole tape) My vote would definetly be for FRAGILE!!!
I prefer The Yes Album, but it kind of depends on my mood. I also think Close to the Edge is at least worth mentioning, if this thread is supposed to be Best Yes album.
Huge fan here. Fragile out of the choice. But I can never think anything got better than Yessongs. That whole concert is one helluva experience.
Fragile. No contest. Fragile was ground breaking back in 1971. Here's a list of the top ten hits in 1971: 1. Joy to the World, Three Dog Night 2. Maggie May / Find a Reason to Believe, Rod Stewart 3. It's Too Late / /I Feel the Earth Move, Carole King 4. One Bad Apple, The Osmonds 5. How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?, The Bee Gees 6. Indian Reservation, The Raiders 7. Go Away Little Girl, Donny Osmond 8. Take Me Home, Country Roads, John Denver 9. Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me), The Temptations 10. Knock Three Times, Dawn Compare those songs to any song on the Fragile album.
Look into Yessongs. On vinyl it was a three record set (probably two cd's). Fantastic Roger Dean artwork. All recorded live, and imo the live versions are even better than the studio recordings. Roundabout, Close to the Edge, Starship Trooper, Perpetual Change and more. No one makes music like that any more.
They were a very innovative and talented band in my opinion, but I'm not very familiar with their catalog of music.
I'd probably rather listen to any of those songs over this filler... http://youtu.be/S68x9HTC7YY Yes Album came out earlier that year.
You have to remember this was written by Bill Bruford who would later move to King Crimson which is known for experimental music. He was known for using unusual time signatures and accents. Here is what he had to say about Five Per Cent For Nothing : I think it's a nice break in the album.
As a kid my experience of it was a double cassette in a pink shell. Later on I got it as a triple album gatefold sleeve. I still feel that it makes you feel like you were there and not many live albums do that, the only others I think offhand would be Nocturne (Siouxsie and The Banshees) and Pulse (Pink Floyd).
