ummmm last time i checked five year olds don't plan/cook their own meals anyway. Since when do 5 year olds have to have enough nutritional knowledge to live? High five to your daughter and goveg.com can send you a free "vegetarian starter kit" in it there's a whole section on Vegetarian diets for pregnancy and children. It goes into detail why a vegetarian diet is great for kids and lists books that can help you out. If you don't want to get the free pamphlet, let me know and i'll send ya the important info. Encourage her to stick to it, she'll be veeeerrryyy healthy as a result fellow veg, jenn
I got that vegetarian start kit, i'd reccomend it to anyone thinking about going veg- it's really great
I never indicated that it was my decision, moron! Read journals such as that published bt J.A.M.A. to get legitimate study results, people. Hippy flyers aren't a good source for truthfulness in scientific studies.
All i gotta say to you is "fuck off" You're obviously not a health professional, and i can tell that you're not because you bring up protein. Why would you bring up a readily available macronutrient such as protein? it's silly. there are plenty of sources of protein that aren't dead animals. Ah well, I guess I don't really have to say much here, since bug_man ain't exactly interested in getting anything real out of this conversation, so I'll just say "Congratulations, and i hope your child turns out great!" Anyway, what is it wit hamericans believing that vegetarianism is unhealthy? In britain, it's quite well established that vegetarians won't curl up and die, and that they're pretty much as well nutriotioned-up as their non-vegetarian counterparts.
Alright....alright..... She fell off the wagon and ate some chicken at school. Guess she's just not ready. At least she made an attempt and hopefully will keep it in mind and try again soon..... I think I will look into that veg start up book though. At least she can be better informed. I looked into vegetarian resources for kids her age at the library and they had nothing. And, thanks everyone for your support. I would NEVER doubt my decision to stand by her choice in this matter.
Thank you for your response and a thank you to your daughter for proving my point. Perhaps these people in this forum who dissed me need to apologize. But I don't expect that to be the case.
Well....I still don't see how you were right, so I won't be apologizing, but I can't speak for the others. And~I don't see how my daughter helped to prove you right. All you said was that a 5-year-old won't get enough protein without eating meat. That's still no more true today than it was yesterday before she ate the chicken..... I will, though, thank you for spicing up this thread......
I see no reason to apologize to you. You remain a fool who has not proven his point. I patiently await some research and hard facts. Exactly how much animal flesh must a person eat while growing? How many pounds a year? You claim it is a medical neccessity... so the information must be out there. You remain a troll... if you really want an apology you can try and find it... I shoved it deep up my bum... just reach up there and get it. RainbowSquidney, did she say that she wants to give up? Does it have to be an all or nothing deal? You could prepare her meals as a vegetarian and also request that the school respect her dietary wishes. At the same time, you can accept that she will experiment with eating whatever she wants. Likely the chicken just looked really tasty and her friends were eating it. Nothing wrong with that. She'll realize what she likes. I remember trying aligator meat once... that didn't mean I fell off the non-aligator eating wagon -- it just means I was open to some experimentation. Kids rarely see this black a white world we want to believe exists... they have to be trained to ignore the reality of different shades.
Then why did you say; "She will never get the proper amount of protein that a growing 5 yearold needs. Please reconsider her wishes. When she is old enough to make an informed decision then so be it. But in the mean time, take responsibility to raise a healthy child. Thank you for listening."? When the ADA has proven that the vegetarian and vegan diets are healthy for every age and stage of life.
I wonder why it didn't happen sooner. Over 2000 posts without a positive comment once... you would think more people would complain.
