---small digression on my Kiwi perspective on the Canada/US thang: I was in Canada during 9/11 which showed that most of the yank-bashing is on the surface. When the shit hit the fan the fact that US is Canada siamese twin, and buys 80% of the gross domestic product came through. All the planes in the air were blocked from landing and a hell of a lot of them were diverted to Canada, Boeings were landing all the way up in Yellow Knife and people were taking stranded passengers into their homes, it was crazy. The US should remember this sort of thing next time they ignore/dis Canada. Those planes full of US citizen were deemed too dangerous to land, and Canada took them. (This after 4 Canadians were bombed by a US jet in Afghanistan) But there are some pretty huge political differences -- it was obvious that the Canadian PM despised Bush, and Bush was barely aware Canada even existed -- some senator said the terrorists all came over the Canadian border (not true they were in the country legally) and the border was shut. Sihk (sp?) truck drivers found they couldn't do their jobs any more because they couldn't enter America etc. A gay couple legally married in Canada could enter the US because their ID was 'impossible' i.e. they couldn't possibly be married so their papers were not in order. The funniest thing is when Canadians asked 'Are you Australian' and I replied 'No I'm a Kiwi' they were *so* apologetic because they hate it when Canadians are called Americans. In the end I just agreed with them, it was easier...

US/Canada... Australia/NZ... big deal. im telling you i LOVE your country. if anything goes horribly wrong in Australia, NZ is my back-up country!! lol no seriously ive wanted to move there for a while... it seems so much more laid back and friendly in NZ than in Australia. and dont get me started on the politics of this pace, i'd much rather call myself kiwi than aussie at the moment considering what a shithead John Howard is.

Actually, the bombing of 4 canadians was after 9/11, not before. But i agree. America and Canada exist the way they are today because of our relationship. They take something like 25% of our exports and ew take around 86% of their exports. They supply almost all the energy for the US. IMO, Canada and the US are pretty much the same country and atleast the two closest in the world. The politics of a lot of canada, (BC, Ontario Quebec to some extent) are like north eastern US(More liberal)...places like manitboa, alberta are like our south and more conservative. With that said, much of the dissing between Canada/AMerica is like oz/kiwi feuds...for fun and stuff. There are some idiots woh hate canada in the US and likewise in canada..but most of them are bumbling idiots. Most americans are grateful towards Canadians, especially since many, many firemen and police came down from canada to help clean up after 9/11. It is the best friendship in the world imo, we need to keep it like that. Bush and chretien, screw them. Any leaders who endanger our relationship need to be booted out of office. I know a lot of canadians get pissed since we know next to nothing about their country, actually most people get pissed that we dont know about every country in the world. But, most americans dont even know their own history that well..so please dont take offense
I figured out why you counted 51. District of Columbia is our capital and is not a state. As for antartica, i believe there are treaties that restrict what you can do there. I.e. setting up no military and for research only. I know we have a research base(McMurdo) in the portion of antartica below NZ. McMurdo is more an international station though, even though its American. You guys have a research center right next to it.
