You would not believe the amount of anti-new zealand bullshit I have to put up with. As there are 6 new zealanders and over 80 australians its really getting too fucking much. I'm thisclose to going to the guy who I'm studying under and putting forward a complaint of racism. It's that bad. Frankly, I'd rather not have this as an Australasian forum. Someone once asked me which language we spoke in Australia (after we had been conversing in English for several minutes.. this person was, needless to say, an American). Anyway, those enlightning comments aside, I have heard some pearlers about NZ - for instance "oh new zeland, thats the one near Spain, right?" - well, i think we are diectly opposite on the globe or something, so you couldn't be more wrong, but hey. On the net i have "ahaha, New Zealand. Do you own a sheep? I thought all new zealanders had pet sheep". and the best one ever (bear in mind I was talking ON THE COMPUTER - "New Zealand. On the whole being a Kiwi isn't to much trouble. Most of the steroetypes are nice. In the States, Canada and here is Scotland most people say 'Oh, I hear it's lovely, I've always wanted to go there.' There aren't many people who want to go around punching New Zealanders in pubs. the more I see of other nations (esp. Scotland/England) the more I realise that even the Aussie/Kiwi rivalry is really just for fun.
oh hell yeah. aussies and kiwis love each other. i mean considering there are about 1/2 the kiwis in the world living in australia. i.e. we have 4 million in NZ and there are like a good 3 million living in australia (i am pretty sure) if australia becomes another stae of the US i think that there will be some real rivalry though. p.s. we are both new countries in historical terms so we havn't got any long term enemys deeply engrained in our blood yet.
