I totally agree. But a hot tub (or 38) is not a purse. ;)

Pffft, I could fit like 100 wallets in a hot tub. And some lotion, too.

Many a times, I pity these filthy rich people.
    (Really- no Jealousy)

Seems like they are missing something in their life, which they try to compensate or buy with money.

Anything excess, and the decay starts.

Zero. That's why I live downtown (so I can walk where I need to go) :)

I hear you. I just never thought Oprah would reduce herself to that: I remember her when she was complaining about having to buy new shoes to interview famous folks and such. Again, a new pair of shoes can be had for under $100. And I don't even want to comment on a purse. My drag queen friends seem to find stunning examples for less than $50. And they look fabulous. :)

Hell, I refuse to spend more than $10 for a pack of 3 cotton T-shirts. Ross ( a chain store in my town) used to have this offer. But those days are long gone.

Now it's up to $10 bucks for a single cotton T-shirt (hate those weird blends that are so popular now).

Same thing goes for sheets. Used to be a twin set of cotton sheets was under $10. Now it's closer to $20 (and a weird blend of fibers I cannot even begin to figure out!). Twilight Zone, people...

I would get denied a loan for a $38,000 bag. And I probably think even if I was a billionaire, I would probably realize the inherent silliness of it. And I probably wouldn't ask people to feel bad for me about it.

I fantasize of sever audacity though.Buying a commercial spot during the superbowl and building a house out of $100 bills and lighting it on fire as America watched. Money is imaginary, and all Americans would weep seeing their god aflame.

But is it really all Americans? Some have stated their dislike for materialism in this thread. Although I agree w/you that some... :)

Oh, sometimes it's hard to know. :)

Growing up wishing to be rich, then getting super rich must be nice.

But I imagine it must be a constant mental struggle not to go completely mad and spend it all.

Maybe it's like a sickness. Spending makes you feel better (for a while, anyway).

I'm almost pretty certain that's what it's like.

By the way, your Crow T. Robot picture always makes me happy every time I see it.

Yeah, I once knew a dude that would shop and drop until his credit cards stopped.

His reasoning was that it was better than wasting money on drugs and alcohol?

So I guess spending can make one feel high (for awhile).

A sense of euphoria brought on by the life of luxury and excess that others in their social/financial class can not afford, at least until they realize they don't really own these things, can't afford them, and the repoman takes them away, and they are now even poorer then before
