I like this idea of recording. I have some inspirational moments while pissed and then cannot decipher my drunken scrawl the next day. All those sarcastic, caustic observations usually smothered by sobriety.

Need to get a cheap, portable dictaphone or something.

If you're not inspired to write, don't. Same applies to making love.

The only way I can overcome writers block is to simply forget I have it. :D

in my opinion you'll seldom overcome writers block if you continually sit and stare at the paper or the monitor in front of you ... the only way to get through wb is to write ... a trick i use is to take a long sentence from a book or a magazine and divide it in two ... i then write my own first half of the sentence and then my own second half ... just write the first thing that comes into your head ... take this sentence for example ... its from a book called "a monkey among crocodiles" by brian thompson "My father, who as a consequence of his proud and violent character, had always been more or less mad at last became so, despite being gifted with rare and valuable qualities." ... so what i would do is this ... "my father, who as a consequence of his proud and violent character, had always been inclined to bust me one in the chops if i was ever cheeky to him or my mother, was the craziest sonofabitch i knew ." ... or "the girl i met last night was rather sweet and loving but was more or less mad and at last became so, despite being gifted with rare and valuable qualities."

in essence all this does is to put some words on the paper or screen for you to work with ... obviously you can't use someone elses sentence in your story but at least it may get the creative juices flowing ... the only way to beat writers block is to write

    writers write right?

I think (not real often but it does happen) that 'writers bloc' comes when you have some other un-solved problem your mind is dealing with.

This can be something as simple as your mind jumping ahead in the book.

Solve those problems and you'll go back to work.
The only other way is to Force yourself to sit down and write something.

Hooray for PC's where you can edit all you want freely, and dont have to waste all that typing paper.

Best bet is to get a bit of distance from it, do some housework or something. I come up with my best ideas when I'm doing the washing up and it's a real pain in the arse to write them down.

Also: talk to people about it. They'll suggest things, you'll think they're retarded, but then you'll start thinking about something else and it'll help. Getting your nose away from the canvas is pretty hard, especially when you're on a deadline, but it's usually the only way to write well if you're your own harshest critic.

"...when inspired write, when uninspired edit..." suggested the goblin who then smiled, saying "...don't think to much, just come and write with me some time, I'm so easy to find and you must never forget that here on forumland you write amongst your readers where they will differentiate between your ebooks and your posts, no, simply the author is the same persona behind both now, that's all..."

I find inspiration happens after i have taken a journey or gone travelling ...

I also only seem to write when I am extremely happy or going thru a rough time..
    Good luck :2thumbsup:
