Without question, Zell's speech is going to hurt Bush's reputation with the undecided independent voters, the ones needed to win the election (New Hampshire, for example). Great planning too how the RNC had Zell speak right after the 'People of Compassion' section in the convention. They should have had him on the first day at 7am. Typical of the great planning of the Bush administration. :)

So, last night, I turned on the T.V. to see what is going on at the convention. What I got was a kick in the guts courtesy of Zell Miller. Everything about Zell Miller's 15 minutes was dark and foreboding. The unveiled hatred of his words, the fact that he was yelling his speech to an increasingly excited crowd, the man's body language, the scowl on his face, the man's entire being, his gestalt, his aura, if you will, was easily the most sinister of any public address I have ever seen.

One of the truly scary aspects of the moment was the fact that the crowd seemed to be really getting into it, the crowd seemed on the verge of turning into a mob. For a few moments, it was well within reach of a healthy imagination to envision the man yelling "SIEG" at the top of his lungs, to a crowd yelling "HEIL."

So what is wrong with our country? It is simple, people are afraid. 9/11 made people believe that there is a constant unknown threat out there that is just waiting to take advantage of our "foolish" vulnerabilty. 9/11 was a very real day of horror, and the fear unleashed on that day has lived on, unabated, to become a kind of cognative static, a spiritual white noise that obscures the reality of our times. It is unfortunate but understandable and forgiveable that so many people are afraid. We have to address this as soon as possible.

What I find morally irresponsible, to put it as charitably as possible, is the fact that Bush's supporters are using the nation's fear for political gain. Watch the speeches and please try to recognize that they are trying to increase the level of fear in this country. The Republicans are betting on the idea that the Bush administration will remain in power if the voters remain afraid, and they can convince people that they are the "strongest" choice.

Now, before you dismiss my words as those of a "Pansy Liberal," let me assure you that I have never lost a fight. What's more, I will remind you that in every tradition of martial arts, the masters know how to win the fight before their opponents even know there is a conflict. It is the weak who must hide behind gestures of strength.

If we really want to end terrorism then we have to starve the Terrorists' of the hatred that feeds their conflict. This will not happen while the unenlightened are in power. Last night may be seen as an obvious cautionary vision about the end of the "right" path that this country is considering. Let's consider other paths.

Please vote responsibly. If you don't vote, then your vote doesn't count.

What is this bullshit Zell Miller said about John Kerry wanting to "outsource our national security"? Kerry wants to fight terrorism through better intelligence provided by cooperation with other nations, which he would achieve by building better relations with them! Is that what he means by outsourcing? Would he prefer to have America go it alone?

I have to live in the same state as this freak. People around here LOVE him.

We also have confederate flags being used by candidates on flyers, posters and what-not for the election. I guess they wanna make sure the majority KKK republicans vote this year.

You know I've seen blacks who support the Confederate Flag, so don't connect the confederate flag with the KKK.

Okay, Mr. Connecticut, since you're only several hundred miles away, I'm SURE you know how things work around here. When the KKK has the mother fucker flying high over their front door, and when MOST of the people who do support it are admittedly racist, you can't tell me there's no connection. Plus all the oh-so popular "you wear your 'X' and I'll wear mine" certainly doesn't seem to create a sense of brotherly love.

So okay, maybe there are the occasional people out there that don't use the rebel flag as a racist thing, but they are FEW and FAR BETWEEN. It's like trying to find someone who still uses a swastika to symbolize peace and love. (which was it's original meaning)

So... let's say you were in.... ohhhhh... I don't know... let's try New York City... just walk up to 10 random African-Americans and ask them if they support the confederate flag...

If you ask me it's the most contradictive concept I've heard in a while and is somewhat equivalent to fucking for virginity.

Did you ever notice Zell Miller talks like Foghorn Leghorn? :) He has that Southern 'Gentleman' accent.

"We got to, I say, we got to get rid of those terrible liberals. Liberals, that is."

Chris Mathews and Zell were duking it out pretty good after the convention on Hardball. Pretty funny.

It gives me such faith in our society that our leadership is determined not by merit, but by football pep-rally mentality.

I swear on my life if my kid's mom didn't live here, I'd move to Canada tomorrow.

Zell Miller obviously lost his medication. I think some guys in white coats were waiting for him off stage.

I’ve been watching these guys lie night after night. They keep saying that they inherited the recession from Clinton. A lie!
Last night Dick Cheney said that Bush has lowered the cost of health care. Big fat lie.
They have all been saying that the terrorists were in Iraq. Even my dog knows that’s not true.
    There’s a lot more but I’ve gotta go…

Was anybody watching Hardball when Zell Miller challenged Chris Matthews to a duel? Chris was ruining Zell's shit big time, and he just up and said 'I wish we were living in a time when men settled disputes in a duel!' or something. I don't remember what went on for the next like 10 minutes of the show, I was just in a state of shock/histerical laughter over what had happened. I'll try to find a link if I can.

An excellent and pointed op ed piece in today's NY Times cuts right to the heart of the GOP mindset expressed so vitriolically during the RNC...

Very very good points, I've been saying this since 9/11. I don't fear terrorism, just like no one here feared it before when for years upon years it has been happening in other countries, by the same people. No one cared before because it was not directly threatening them. I can't live my life scared of things, that is just ridiculous. I don't mean being irresponsible either, but if for some reason I die due to a terrorist attack, at least I will die knowing I have actually lived, as opposed to those who live in fear. That is no way to live life.

How about a new slogan for the Bush campaign: "Hope Through Fear"

    :)

I'm damn afraid alright. It has finally worked. I'm afraid that Bush and co, will be able to ruin our country if he is elected (or steals) in this election. Bush himself isn't so scary... lol I could take him on, on a bad day. The rest of the people at the convention and what they believe is quite scary though.
