I know someone who got involved with someone who played this game really well. His "job" and "past" were top secret.

He was a scam artist and took her for a lot of money. It took her three years to find him and to have him then charged. He ended up doing time ( still is) and I am sure his cell buddies are not impressed by his stories.

I think if someone had a position that was truly of that much importance they would not be stating it to new people they meet.

Perhaps it is not so much the fact that his job is so horrible, but so well paid, that he is worried you will only like him because of the job and the money and not for his perssonality.

 

I've had to do some really *bad* things while in the army and actually sworn to secrecy beyond anything I've just said.
He may be in a similar situation?
