No. Today's modern life and the internet go hand-in-hand. It would be impossible for me to separate the two since I grew up right at the start of the internet boom. Real life is a million times more interesting than the internet though. There are like... flowers and trees and bikes and beer out there.
The patient must meet all of the following criteria: He or she is preoccupied with the Internet (thinks about previous online activity or is anticipating the next online session). He or she needs to spend longer and longer periods of time online in order to feel satisfied. He or she has made unsuccessful efforts to control, cut back, or stop Internet use. He or she is restless, moody, depressed, or irritable when attempting to cut down or stop Internet use. He or she repeatedly stays online longer than he or she originally intended. The person must meet at least one of the following criteria: He or she has jeopardized or risked the loss of a significant relationship, job, educational or career opportunity because of Internet use. He or she has lied to family members, a therapist, or others to conceal the extent of involvement with the Internet. He or she uses the Internet as a way of escaping from problems or of relieving an unpleasant mood (such as feelings of helplessness, guilt, anxiety, or depression).
Well, I haven't endangered anything, career or family life because of the Internet, sometimes I have something specific to do while online, like writing a business email to someone, but nothing serious. And well, yes, I use it sometimes to feel better...
Well, yesterday I got tired of you guys and called a friend...it was weird. Talking to someone you can actually see.
Ah Christ. For the past 2-3 months I am utterly and completely guilty of all the criteria. Someone take me away in shackles or a straight jacket. I'm addicted. >_<
Once upon a time I would most definitely say that I was addicted to the internet. Thankfully, that is no longer the case! Now it's quite rare that I even get online!
rubey is right. we live in the age of information.. its a technological word!! that being said, i most definetly have an internet addiction. its a form of escape i guess you could say. i love the internet!
Is this the in thing??? to discuss internet addiction? This same question was in the newspaper today and I think that I decided to myself that no, I dont have a p-p-p-problem.
