I wouldn't marry just because I got pregnant, and where my life is right now I would probably have an abortion anyways. :/

I commend you on your efforts to get out of unhealthy abusive relationship!!!! You are now a Survivor, not a Victim!!! And you taught your kids to be a Survivor, by getting rid of him.

What are you doing about the back child support payments? You know that nothing will be done, unless you call the child support company and ask them to investigate if he is working. Did you know that if he did work, you are entitled to his entire tax checks? And if he is receiving unemployment checks, you are entitled to get child support payments out of that compensation, as well.

My parents got married because my mom was pregnant. The later lost that baby, but stayed together out of, I don't know, habit? and later got pregnant with my sisters and me and then stayed together for us, but with constant traumatizing incidents of fighting and emotional abuse. Now after all the kids are grown up and gone, they stay together out of fear of being alone. At least now they have happy moments, brought about by spending money I think.
*sigh* It's sad that people actually used to do this. My sisters are both unsuccessful in their own relationships because of this example.

And me, I married for love and found out I was pregnant while planning the wedding. I should have waited, perhaps, for appearence's sake, but having a millenium baby (born 1/1/00) motivated us to not worry about trying not to.
Of course, perhaps a new thread could be started about marrying for love without the practical reasons in place too. My husband and I are still desperately in love, but desperate is also the description of our practical situation. And then, should you stay together because of the kids?

pfft~Been trying to do something for eons. DCSE doesn't really get off their ass to do much. He is paying somewhat (70/wk and only 20.00 goes towards the 74,000.00) and I'm trying to go back and get it raised. They lowered it when they did a review after my daughter was 18...19. They basically rewarded him for his bad behavior instead of keeping it the same and applying it towards the arrearages. Get this, he also sold a house from under the lein they had in place too. I was told, too bad, so sad..do you have the attorney's name that he used? shit! theres a public record they could easily have gotten if they wanted to do anything about it. I was also told it would probably be at least 6 months before my case gets a court date and the court won't hear me since this was turned over to DCSE...round and round the mulberry bush, the monkey chased the weasel....lmao~*

My parents got married because my mom was pregnant... but they divorced a few years later. It just doesn't seem like a legitimate reason to me. Yes, if you were already in love and considering marriage, and the gal happened to get pregnant, it might be the trigger for the question.... but it shouldnt' be the only reason.

I made that mistake. Women-sisters: avoid any guy who will sleep with you but not live with you prior to a marriage!
I married Arlo's dad and it was hell. I DID get to be home for an extended time (3 1/2 years) but we lived with this nasty filthy racist parents for two years of it, and I babysat a pack of kids so we could afford to move out. I left him about six months after that.
For Arlo, it is difficult because he is split between homes, holidays and groups of friends and family.

One thing I forgot to mention. I ended up with a very high risk pregnancy. Marrying Bear put me and the baby on his insurance. The pregnancy would have cost us more than $100,000. We would have lost the house, our cars, and gone bankrupt if we hadn't gotten married and gotten on the insurance.
