Boulder, Colorado. A bunch of yuppies trying to act like they're hippies. Also, their local laws are stupid. Like, no smoking in public. Not even in your car! I probably wouldn't care much now, but when I was a smoker, it pissed me off.
No, I only went to music festivals around the age my fellow dutchies liked to go there for holiday I'm sure around that age I could have a good time there with my friends as well though. When I knew what to expect it still didn't rise to the top of my priority list of places to visit. My brother did go on a bus trip to Loret at age 18 or so, did all the things you would expect and had a blast
Marseilles is another good one. What an Arab filled shithole of a town. Complete disgrace to its rich history.
I forgot to mention Vegas. The only thing I wanted to do when I was there was rent a car and go to the Grand Canyon. The whole trip from Vegas to the Grand Canyon is quite beautiful. The only time I ever expect to step foot in Vegas again is if I use the airport there as a starting point for an awesome desert camping trip.
i would have to say the decade of the 1950s was the most depressing time i've ever been. for physical climate i'd have to say the central valley of california. great place for growing tomatoes and lettice, but just no a place to live. i think suburbs, where they're all endlessly just houses and cars, are kind of depressing too. there were a couple of residential hotels over the top of bars i've lived in at different times which were not so much bleak as annoying. i guess that's closer to what people usually think of. having to live in a city if you don't own a car or indenture yourself to a car in order to not have to live in a city, that's something i don't like. there's no one worst or best place really. oh there've bee some strange, dingy places. there was a place on burnside in portland that you could rent this little plywood cubicle with a bid in it for a dollar and a quarter a week, that always smelled like piss. but it was a place off the street that you could actually have to yourself where you could lock your stuff and put your pictures on the walls and what have you. there have been place i have lived where there wasn't any work to be had. but you know, most of that kind of stuff hasn't really bothered me. i guess the first time i was homeless and didn't know about souplines, that was really scarry. but you know, all of those things have all just been kind little detours of diversity to keep life interesting.
Oh, not to worry, I have no intention of going back. Why would I? All the best Australians are outside of Australia anyway. And beaches are better in other places. Patriotism is the virtue of the wicked, if you believe mr Oscar Wilde. I noticed it was very common in the Australians, to the point where businesses would advertise that they were Australian owned, with the flag and everything. One of my good friends there I had to condition over the course of a year to stop using the word "faggot" and various racial slurs. And he was one of the more tolerant ones. You know shit is messed up when bigotry is socially acceptable. But hey, to each their own, and if you think that stuff is tip-top, Glen, then.. good for you, I guess.
I actually like Vegas you got casino's, hot girls, nightclubs, pool parties, strip clubs, and you can buy alcohol 24/7. However last year I was there to see Further and drop acid for the weekend and we stayed at this house in a seriously ghetto part of Vegas. The streets were full of crack heads, hookers, and gangbangers, and the house filthy, with like 9 cats and so infested with cockroaches they even living in the stove! So imo if it wan't for the casinos, vegas would just be another shit hole desert town.
I agree on Barstow, also needles, Victorville, apple valley, primm..vegas is alright except for the damn card flickers
Hahaha, been there twice. Back and forth from San Diego. Not much to say except the only place to stop for gas and Wal-mart I think it was.
