"jaws 4" stunk like a decaying fish..."heaven's gate" had great possibilities with the right director .i looked forward to seeing it even after critics had put it down but it was hell sitting through this nearly four hour film.i did like it more than the critics did because it was an interesting story.

Pink Flamingos. Honestly not to sound homophobic but I look at John Waters eary work and think, "There must be gay people that will watch anything by a gay director and call it brilliant." There was no plot, the acting sucked, and it was a whole series of gross out jokes barely tied together each one outdoing the last until it culminates with a 600 pound Drag Queen eating Dog Shit.

I kind of like but am not in love with John Waters later stuff. He himself kind of irritates me. In the interviews I've seen with him he comes across as someone with a borderline pathalogical need to be the center of attention. It really is reflected in his work. I really have to search the memory banks to remember the plot to Pink Flamingos but i clearly remember the gross out jokes. And the stories he tells about how concerned he was about getting the dog to shit while he had light to film it and how unconcerned he was about getting Devine to eat it. How charming. Iguess negative attention is better than no attention at all.

    Peace Out,
    Rev J

    Oh Yeah! I forgot Stealth.

Put that with my list of worse, altho we who didn't like it are in the majority. It bombed with the critics and bombed at the box office - cost millions to make and got back thousands.

I didn't like the ending and the death of a key player in the middle of the flick was not really necessary. (unless of course the actor bailed because he knew this flick was crashing)

I have tried on two separate occasions to watch Across The Universe, but both times I got about ten minutes in and asked myself 'WHY AM I WATCHING THIS SHIT?'. Therefore, it is bad.

The Beatles are good, and I suppose that by including their music in this film, one might think that it's going to be at least a little bit good for it-- but it is utterly, completely, profoundly NOT. They actually managed to fuck up ripping off the Beatles, something which is extremely hard to do.

This is not a subjective opinion, it is a timeless fact of existence that this movie is shit.

They didn't RIP them off... its not like they created an album of Beatles songs and called it their own. It is a MUSICAL, so if you don't like musicals then you wont like Across the Universe. I think they songs are performed very well. The acting is fine and most of the actors have very good singing voices. The plot is generic, but that is what you get with all musicals.

I would have to say that Rob Zombie's Halloween 2, Jason X, the Unborn all go at the top of my list.

    ^ It's all the 3d.

It's such a ridiculously overused plot.

Yeah but let's put it this way. If James Cameron remade "Ishtar" it would be the highest grossing movie ever.

What does the amount of money it makes have ANYTHING to do with how good it is?

All that says is how much hype it received and how effective advertising was.

    My point exactly.

Seriously, maybe it is just because of the anticipatory effect the marketing had on me, but it did feel like one of the worst films I had seen. It was so obvious it hurt.

    - Man becomes blue thing, of course he is going to rebel against mankind,
    - 'No-one has ridden this bird in a while'. So he hops on board
    - Oh look, I want to become one of you and have sexy time with the princess. What a surprise.

As I have read on loads of sites, it is basically Pocahontas with blue people. If everyone liked it fair enough- but think if it didn't have the 3-D, the advertising and inflated director at hand, they would have put it down to being pretty standard.

    But that's only my opinion.

    Napoleon Dynamite

I tried to like it, I really did. For a good solid 2 minutes I let go of all my prior notions of the movie and gave it a chance. It failed to impress. I just don't get it

Yeah, that's true and I alluded to such in my review. But moreso it is also Dances With Wolves in Space.

The story is contrived as are most hero stories. That has been going on since Perseus, whose Deus Ex Machina was that he actually a was demigod.

I only saw it four times, in both 3-D, IMAX and 2-D. As I reported, the 3-D is not necessary, it looks just as good in 2-D. In fact, next week I am getting the DVD when it comes out.

Oh, in my opinion I disagree with the "worst" film comments.

Fair cop, maybe I should start a thread, the 'worst film you've seen lately' topic seems to appear more appropriate here.

I think I am being a little bit harsh, but I cannot help myself, I couldn't get on with it. I think when the hype settles down, and people start to watch the film a little more objectively- there will be a downturn of popularity.

So many films have been so popular at a time, then mocked years later. The Sixth Sense comes to mind.

But yeah, to be fair it's not the worst film i've ever seen, just fancied spamming the thread (lol), but it is the worst I have seen this year- maybe the last few.

Not true. I like some musicals, but doing one with Beatles songs is just so obvious. And then making it worse by linking them to pretentious simplistic metaphors is almost unforgivable. These are the Beatles covers nobody needed or wanted-- slicker, boringly updated post-FM radio versions of songs that will never, ever be better than their original incarnations.

Not really. The old musicals had the advantage of not having been done. This was basically the same thing as 'Hair', except not as edgy or insightful, and with no interesting characters or original songs. The singing is fine-- god knows I'm sure these people had heaps of lessons with Hollywood's best and most expensive singing teachers... but there's nothing particularly unique about it... just like there's nothing unique, insightful or relevant about the situations in the film-- it's a string of events that everyone already knows about, set to music that everyone already likes (but changed so that it sounds suckier). What's the point????

I'd even like it more if this movie was just supposed to be stupid, fun nostalgia and didn't come off like it was trying to examine the times, make important statements, and then try to get you to care for its stupid soap-opera melodrama.

    Yeah, really!

As much as I don't think it's great art, it is extremely watchable... and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I don't think anyone can argue that a lot of the battle scenes and such are really epic... and the planet itself is totally awesome. There might not be so many truly original characters, but I don't think anyone can deny that this film has a lot of imagination, visually.

As much as you knew the relationship was going to happen, it's still believable that these two would get it on. And even though the villains here are basically interchangeable with the villains from The Abyss and Aliens (capitalism and male bravado are apparently the most dangerous things in the universe)... I still liked the performances.

And there was none of that mushy vomit-inducing dialogue that made Titanic suck so much... the best romances in James Cameron films are between capable human beings placed in a situation they would rather avoid, and develop through the inexperienced teaching the experienced.

Except for Titanic, I don't think James Cameron has ever made a bad film.
