the general that was first in charge of the union troops during the civil war before grant. he couldve defeated the south in one fell swoop, but waited,, and waited,, and waited and let the rebels get away. so lincoln fired him and put grant in there
Lee the worst? You're out of your mind. Or in dire need of brushing up on your Civil War history. Although he was admittedly overrated, Robert E Lee was far from the worst. By the measure of any published Civil War historians he was one if the best. In the top five at least for both sides and the entire war. He was a defensive genius. He didn't far as well when he went on the offensive. Like he did at Gettysburg. But he learned from that mistake. Lee never forayed into the North again after that illfated July weekend in 1863. I will agree that the South held on for way too long. They should've surrendered after they lost Vicksburg. Which choked off their main supply route of the Mississippi River, and cut the Confederacy in half. And they really should've thrown in the towel after Sherman sacked Atlanta. To wait a full nine more months after that was insane. But we cannot blame Lee for that. All that falls on Jefferson Davis shoulders. As far as the worst general in the civil war? Easy... George McClellan. He was over cautious yo the point of cowardice, and he squandered several prime opportunities early on to win the war, and thus spare tens of thousands of lives. He could've easily sacked Richmond during the Penninsular Campaign in 1862.
