I haven't seen the movie yet - so I can't really pass judgement. However, my gut instinct is one of disgust much like Mac. Unfortunately, Hollywood isn't a benevolent institution. Like much in the USA, the dollar sign rules all. Hence, I expect to see as much "truth" in the movie as there was in "Pearl Harbor" or any other "true" movie. As far as I know, the proceeds of the movie will probably be making a small group of people very rich and that is a bit suspect considering they were virtually guaranteed a large audience. If that money were going elsewhere, for instance the families of the victims, or some other worthy related cause, that would be a different story. Spooner, I agree with you - we yanks do take 911 too seriously. The point is, we take it seriously for the wrong reasons. It pissed me off when I heard people groveling over it and motivating everyone for vengence. I had the same thought as you: Gee, how many other buildings got blown up in the world this year? How many innocent people were killed while they were going about their daily lives? Are we more important than any of those other poor bastards around the world? I realize I'm gonna get slammed for this one, but I think America has turned into the whiny pussy kid that tells the teacher that the bully on the playground took a swipe at him instead of putting up his guard and possibly taking an ass whooping. That's what we've become all about here - we're scared to take an ass whooping. It's on a small scale social level, as well as a large scale political level. Tragedies happen all the time in other countries, and while not to be taken lightly, people often take another sip of their favorite alcohol and keep on going. So Spooner, that's a good reason to take 911 seriously. Not because of the direct losses, but because the event stands as a monument to what America has become: more interested in the almighty dollar and hiding behind an impenetrable wall of technology and industry instead of standing up like a man and fighting for what's right. Many of us don't like it and are trying to effect change. So, the date stands as a vivid and serious reminder of what needs to be done. To those of you that are about to call me heartless and unamerican, I don't mean to downplay or negate the lives that were lost that horrible day. I very fortunately had no family or friends that were lost that day, although that in itself is a miracle. If I did have direct losses from 911, would I feel differently?? Who can say... I do know that if that were the case, I would like my loved ones to be canonized in something a little less shallow then a Hollywood film.
You're also a Kafir. If I ever become a radical islamist militant you're right at the top of my list.
