I work weird shifts like your job working in the the mountains. I get 7 days off every 6 weeks. I just started my 7 off today. The bad part is, I'm recovering from the long stretch to get here. I will be in brain fog until Wednesday, haha.
Wow, that's a long haul, it should be two weeks off if they want 6 weeks on. Some camps up north have two on one off and others have five weeks on two weeks off and yet others are longer on with less time off. Dry camps must suck. There are a few of them. I prit near went up to one camp as a first aider, kind of rescue level, woulda been huge bucks for sitting and waiting for someone to bleed but long rotations so I changed my mind, too cold for that long, for me and that long without a drink? Huh,,, that's what you need when you are stuck up north in boarding houses and hotels. My buddy does it but he is damn tired when he comes back because it's so long. His bonus at his camp is he gets the summer off and up usually till Christmas.
I'm on a 4 day a week, 10 hour day schedule, so the hours are long, but I get an extra day off. I have discovered if I take one day off around a weekend, they can schedule my weekly day off on either side of that three day weekend, giving me 4-5 days off in a row. I wish I had known this before I took 3 days off at the beginning of the year. Now I am going to have only 4 days off left for the year with which I can try to do this again, but two of them are already spoken for for the day before and after Thanksgiving. So yeah. Two days off left. I am going to try to use them wisely...
