Are you having one? I am currently unemployed, so for me the answer is no. In the UK the tradition seems to be to get blind drunk and embarrass yourself in front of your colleagues. At a work do a few years ago someone scaled the Christmas tree in the hotel and fell asleep on the balcony. I spoke to my brother at the weekend who lives in the States, he said he'd had a Christmas lunch with no booze and then they all went back to work. Merry f*cking Christmas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x65-nLCBouE
most of the departments at work have their own separate little party thing, and i usually attend 2 or 3 of them. none of them are particularly interesting though.
My company doesn't wanna offend anyone with a Christmas party. We are having a Holiday Bash instead. I never met any non-celebrator of Christmas who admits to feeling offended by it. Many years ago I had a Jewish friend and I asked him if he felt singled out around Christmas time because Hanuka was generally ignored since so few Jews live around here. He said he and his family didn't care and embraced being different.
I went to mine -- it is a struggle to amp myself up to go. Sometimes I have fun anyway, begrudgingly.
had one last year, not really a party. just some chicken wings the boss brought in. then the place blew up.
Yeah, we have one every year and I never go. Tonight we're having a mini Christmas party at work, during the night shift, so no booze -- just food.
Not recently, but in years past, I've been to some huge ones in hotel ballrooms. Midgets make the parties better.
we all live to far apart and after living together for 5 months it's a little too early to see each other again. I'm sure I'll stop by my bosses house soon, he makes fruit cake every year.
i don't recall ever working any place that had one. i'm not even sure about that, but i don't think so. i guess because none of my jobs were in an office, except toward the end of when i was in the air force, and that didn't span the season so to speak.
Yeah, I'm going. But I really don't see why would anyone get drunk and make a fool of themselves. Moderation is nice.
Not usually, usually if I don't think something will be fun I won't go. But my work dynamics are strange and complicated, and holiday parties typically end with some explosive drama.
They gave out prizes at my work Christmas party. First prize was a one-week stay at Trump towers in Istanbul, Turkey complete with a jacket with the Trump name on it in big letters. Second prize was a two-week stay at Trump towers with two jackets.
My former employers hired 'The Ark' office building in London for our Xmas party one year (1999 I think). Stripped out a few floors, put in party stuff ....... free food, free drinks ....... it was memorable! Other years they hired boats on the Thames, a warehouse, money was no object when they wanted to party. Fire breathers, naked people pretending to be statues, pop groups, ballroom dancers ..... they were a wild bunch.
We had ours on Saturday. I don't know why a Saturday instead of a Friday evening. Supposedly the place was quite swanky. I had a date and it was 18 degrees on Saturday, so we stayed in and got hammered on cider. I'm not going to drive an hour and a half on a Saturday to get drunk with coworkers.
I never bothered to attend any when i worked with others ...i just wanted to be left alone on my off time..most co-workers were lazy goofs and i had zero interest in socializing with them
I can't say much about the IBM party in Atlanta except that I was young and there was booze. The Home Depot party in Atlanta was a complete hoot. I laughed alot.
