"Stupid wop daygo". I heard the phrase on South Park a looooong time ago and it made me laugh so hard because it just sounds so retarded. I didn't find out it was racist the hard way, though, I eventually looked it up to find out exactly what I was laughing at. I still think it's hilarious.

    BWAHAHA

I can only get away with racial jokes during card games, but I'm so using that one next time I get a chance.

I was at work several years ago and we started talking about the scene in "The Godfather" when the movie producer tells off Tom Hagan. He calls him a dago guinea wop greaseball goombah. After Tom tells him that he is actually German-Irish he says "let me tell you something my kraut mick friend..."

There was a younger guy in the room that overheard what we were saying. He asked what 'mick' meant because he had a friend that was always calling him that. When we told him that mick was a racial slur against Irish people he got really pissed off. There was a much older man that said that if someone had called one of his uncles a mick they would have been stabbed. It was funny as hell to see the expression on his face change when we explained what it meant.

    Cracker.

Only found out how offended some could get on a site a few years ago. Someone who was Scottish used the term how they always had, to say something was funny or hilarious and was literally attacked and called a racists.

I had never heard it used as a derogatory term until a few chose to take the meaning that way. It could not have been applied in the context the person was using it as being racists but that did not stop them.

I hate that this thread is making me laugh so much.

My husband just informed me yesterday that "oriental" is offensive.

I remember calling my grandpa a bastard once when I was like 5. Had no idea that it was a bad word, but as soon as I said it my entire family immediately quieted and gave me "the look". I was so embarrassed/scared. lol

I think intent makes a big difference in how racist remarks are received.

Though the person hearing them has the final say on whether or not they are offensive.

I'm not saying I fundamentally disagree with the sentiment that ALL racist terms should never be used, but for myself I enjoy a laugh at stereotypes and tasteless jokes.

ie, there's a stereotype that 'asians are bad drivers' I was joking with my Korean friend because she is a good driver. I told her she has overcome her racial handicap. I used a racist concept as humor and we both laughed our butts off.

I disagree. I think the sayer has the final say.

People who needlessly take offense at innocent remarks are just gay.

i've heard it attempted to be used as a derogatory term, but i've never seen it taken that way because it's just hard to be offended at "cracker."

that's basically how i learned about "prick."
