So many female artists this year have returned with great new music. Jesca Hoop Laura Marling Lorde Nelly Furtado Wasn't so keen on Green Light, but it grew on me. This song is lovely though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtvJaNeELic And Macy Gray is back too. Also Blondie has a new album coming out soon. Lana Del Ray, although not that keen on her new one. Haven't really heard of anything from Nelly since Loose, but apparently she's had two other albums out since then. I was never really a fan until the Timbaland album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDOHUrE0NRs
Fazerdaze are a really nice shoegaze band from New Zealand. I saw them play last year, for about 5 minutes because sometimes venues in Edinburgh that are also nightclubs put bands on early and kick everyone out at 10pm. These guys were supporting Big Deal and sounded great, but I fucking missed most of the set! While they were playing the last song I was busy getting a drink at the bar, and talking to the lead singer of the main band. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXx97Woi_XU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szvFmW_oxeY
And how could I forget Alison Goldfrapp, The Goldfrapps have a new album out soon as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2euqyXXjmAo Yet to hear them bring out an album as good as The Seventh Tree though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dV_G0Xsbvhc
And Missy Elliot is back too, although I'm not sure what I think about this new minimalist sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwyPsUd9LAk
Don't really like any of those. Although hard not to be an Adele fan. Who is in Sydney this very night, gridlocked half the city for concert of a hundred thousand fans both Fri and Sat night's . Unfortunately I'm not in the country mistimed this holiday, otherwise I sooooo would have been there . Anyhow, she is a woman, and by far the biggest superstar on the planet now
Annie Hardie of Giant Drag has a new solo album out, technically I think late last year, which is practically this year if you think about it. I haven't heard it yet. She's a bit of a crazy chick. I like her older albums byThe Giant Drags and I talked to her on periscope when she was doing the live on air driving a car thing? I hope she's stopped now because it's dangerous. Playing keyboard and singing in to a mic while actually driving. I love her because she talked to me in video, and her answers to my questions were fun. Also because I said something that made her laugh and I saw her laughing, while she was driving. She's been through a hard time since this, and she has a new album out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dugZU0QCYg
Blondie doesn't own 2017 with this tripe. I had a dream last week that I was in a record shop where they were giving out free CDs and her 13th studio album entitled 13 was there, but when I tried to take a load of them so I could sell them on eBay Blondie sudenly appeared from behind the counter and started talking to me. As it turns out it was her imminent 11th album, and this is the single from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEngbdIMZ6o
OK, I listened to that one since I was intrigued by the title, I wanted to know if Kevin was hot Dont think there was a kevin, kevin a metaphor maybe Anyhoo, not bad, I like her voice a lot, like the song, not bad Mr Headness But back to 2017, you dont need to dig up The Bangles to get the party started
True that. I just felt that eventually the thread would descend into music by female artists from any year, plus whisky. Kevin was in fact gay I believe, and the song is about a crush she had on a guy called Kevin, but he was gay. The strange words she says at the start are from a computer game called Street Fighter. characters called Rugame and Shoryugen. I know this because I asked her on Periscope and she told me by direct video feed while she was parked outside a mall in her car eating a taco.
This is more like the Goldfrapp I know. I didn't like the other new one so much, but this is more atmospheric and full of beautiful shakti synth waves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFCqp6I2lcs I think Charlotte Hatherly has some new stuff out and has gone all synthy as well, the cute indie bassist girl from Ash.
Haley Bonar played a good set at the Radio 6 Music festival in Glasgow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeXm8PqRPJM
