Instead of complying with mens seemingly eternal war games, women might want to think about ways to get WAR STOPPED. Some group has to and it's not going to be men.

For the record, women have been fighting in combat since at least the start of the Iraq invasion.

Your blatant misandry is highly offensive.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_feather

In August 1914, at the start of the First World War, Admiral Charles Fitzgerald founded the Order of the White Feather with support from the prominent author Mrs Humphrey Ward. The organization aimed to shame men into enlisting in the British Army by persuading women to present them with a white feather if they were not wearing a uniform.[2]

This was joined by prominent feminists and suffragettes of the time, such as Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughter Christabel. They, in addition to handing out the feathers, also lobbied to institute an involuntary draft of men, including those who lacked votes due to being too young or not owning property.

To quote Hitchens : "The only thing to be done with such a point is to underline it."

All wars are actually started by people. That women may not be credited for starting wars is probably because they weren't often in the positions that usually gets the credit. Women who were in one of those positions seem to start wars too.

I'd take it further back to when combat was invented.

The idea that women aren't warlike is preposterous to me. It's just that we haven't been in control of many nations throughout history.

Women are no better or worse than men. We aren't some sort of spiritually superior being. We're just as capable of being horrible human beings as men are, and men are just as capable of kindness as women are.

You just don't get it, Victoria. It's only gay women who are warlike. Because gay women are just like men. The cause of everything that is bad in the world.

Preposterous,eh? Love that word. Perhaps the call for women to step up and stand for peace in a worldwide manner against war was not recognized. Taking control is not what women have done much throughout history. Might it be time?

It is time if they want to and are qualified that they are allowed and stimulated to take any position that is available to them. Nothing more, nothing less. I think it is silly too to expect radical changes if women would fill those positions.
And back to the original topic: I also think it is preposterous (like the word as well ) that women should be automatically excluded from frontline positions because they might get raped when captured. That IS overplaying the rape thing. The risk can be real, no one seems to deny that, and it is a valid excuse to not want to take such a position.. but it shouldn't be used to exclude them because of that risk by definition.

(2nd part is a rant). Agree to disagree. I think that when any group of humans, governments,or societies decides that females should be subjected to the horrors of war right on the front lines to kill and/or be killed , is a sick society. In fact,IMO,that war is still a method by which humans interact, shows just how barbaric civilization happens to be. I guess some folks would find pleasure in seeing those pushy, rights demanding bitches get what they deserve. People seem to base opinions on subsets of the usual, inculcated ways of thinking about issues, which is the natural and easy way to carry on with ones beliefs. Like stepping stones in a creek, one follows another as one crosses. The stones representing established ideas/ideals. Seems like a reasonable way to cross--using what has always seemed to be a reasonable and adequate method of conduct to navigate lifes travails--not stray too far away from what we've always done. However what is needed is a complete abandoning of the usual way of crossing that metaphorical stream with a new way of approaching the problems humanity has now, that will only be exacerbated by constantly being constrained by repeatedly staying on the stones of the past. We just keep buying the same old shit that relentlessly keeps telling us the earth is under control--but be afraid--be very afraid. Evolution seems to have worked pretty well for lower sentient beings, but here we are--flawed ,greedy creatures that just can't figure out that this earth could/should be a paradise for all.

Scratcho, what the hell are you talking about? Cut to the chase. You seem to think it's better for societies to put men on the front lines than to put women there. Is that what you're saying? If so, how do you justify that potition?

Wonder why that--quote& quote bullshit was stuck in there. Had to go back and take 'em out. I don't know ,David. I'm just too fucken' tired to philosophise right now. Yes,it offends my sensebilities to think of women gettin their asses blown to bits -----or men either, by the way. Main thrust of my ramble was how fuckin' dumb it is for humanity to be still deciding issues by blowing the shit oughta people and countries.

What I think means nothing. Just another swingin' dick passing through life to end up as worm chow.

Reckon it has to do with my age concerning women?

Women will kill you just as dead as men. Some women were trained for combat in Japan in the 1500s so it's not anything new. Gay men have been killing people effectively in combat for centuries as well. If women and gay men want to fight, let them. And if we draft men we have to draft women. Equal protection and equal responsibility.

If everything has to be equal, then what is your plan for having several thousand male soldiers raped by their female counterparts each year?
    :toetap05:

Just this past weekend, the guy in the Air Force who was in charge of the program to reduce sexual assault incidents within their ranks was arrested for sexual assault. The US military is nowhere close to getting this problem under control.

I hate to disappoint you but I have no intention of formulating a plan to get women to rape men. You would have to be a very strange and sick person to do that, almost as strange as the person who would ask you if you had a plan to get women to rape men by the thousands. I can't imagine what you were thinking when you wrote that.
