This argument ties into a sort of thinking I don't agree with. Men rights, anti-feminism etc. But I do have to admit most female comedians considered good don't have the kind of jokes men do. 90% of them are dating and telling the audience they are old/fat but OK with it since only some man cares. It seems like they still limit themselves by men. They are still not a person just a thing since everything in their life is "well a man will not like it". Odd opinion I know,.

It's very one dimensional but there are a few females who I like. I guess some of their humor is not for me anyway.

Are Men Really Funnier Than Women?

What does it all mean? It means that to the best of our knowledge, on average, men appear to have higher humor production ability than women. Note that I emphasized the word average because the study does not mean, as Christopher Hitchens famously proclaimed, that women are not funny. The fact that men, on average, appear to be funnier than women, does not imply that every single man is funnier than every single woman. There are many great female comedians such as Sarah Silverman, Tina Fey, Ali Wong and historically, Lucille Ball, Joan Rivers, and many, many more. All these great comedians are funnier than 99.9 percent of all men.

Women can be just as funny as men, trouble is a lot of women are so self-conscious it stifles their potentially good humour.

Primitive tribes have often noted that civilized people have stunted senses of humor, with the simplest jokes going right over their heads, and flashing mischievous grins and guilty looks, even when they are good people who would never do anything wrong! Visit the circus, and the clowns with the biggest egos are the funniest.

I dont really think its much of a thing since 90% of male comedians are self deprecating losers and rely on that

Scientists believe the earliest common ancestor of all dinosaurs is the klitosauraus, but so far no one has been able to find one

I’ve noticed this for quite some time. I really want women comedians to make me laugh. Melissa Mcarthy has been the only one that has actually made me laugh hard on some of her movies, i.e. “The Heat”, “Spy” and the sitcom “Mike and Molly”. She’s the only one that does it for me.

I’m going to watch The Heat again. I think I just like her. The only movie I didn’t care much for was “Tammy”- that sucked!

I think its more just standup where the difference is more pronounced

    Sitcoms, the difference is less

Carla was the funniest on Cheers
Karen by far the funniest on Will n Grace
Joanna Lumley on Absolutely Fabulous; she was hilarious
    Dawn French
Bernadette is the funniest on Big Bang

    iz complicated.

it comes down to perception and how the public views things such as sex, race, gender, tropes, etc.. Being funny is actually complicated, comedians are able to intuitively tap into what makes us laugh, but even the funniest comedians aren't funny all the time to everyone of every culture. and this is because on top of the fact that each culture/audience leans onto a different type of humor, humor itself is largely based upon questioning our perception of ourselves and societal norms/roles, so what is funny to an audience is contained within a set number of real and measurable parameters.

for example, a lot of jokes require sympathy towards the comedian in order for them to work. imagine an african american or white guy complaining about how hard it is to be asian woman in china, or a small child complaining about marriage, work life, and bills. sure it can be funny to a certain extent, but if that particular jokes requires a degree of feeling sorry for the comedian who's on the mic, how much can the audience really empathize with this person knowing the comedian doesn't actually inhabit the world/culture they reference?

now imagine a young average looking american woman making a joke complaining about how hard her construction/plumping job is, and how all her husband does is sit around all day on the couch doing nothing, borrowing her credit card on the weekends to go out shopping with his friends. it can happen right? not impossible. heck, it might even be true for that particular comedian, but it really isn't believable to the public at large because your average person doesn't experience the presented scenario.

So in a nutshell, the reason female comedians aren't funny on average is because they are doing male jokes. They need to stay away from making jokes about paying child support, wanting prenups, and waving goodbye as their husbands leave them, along with their small children, on a life boat, as they are forced to stay on the Titanic as it sinks, because these aren't scenarios the public can believe, not because they are sexist but because it doesn't actually happen on the day to day. jokes need to have an element of reality in them, and if they are simply based off completely imagined scenarios then it falls on its face.

Not buying the premise. Men and women are about the same, when it comes to character and capacity, with the only exception being biological differences like lactation and directing a stream of urine away from the body in a particular direction other than straight down.

Any generalization that combines character or capacity (and 'more funny' or 'less funny' does) with the human characteristic of sex, gender, asexuality, or intersexuality is sexist, per se, and inappropriate.

Similar to your assertion, some say that men are physically stronger than women. It all depends on how you measure it. I can easily pass-over the 28-year-old weightlifter, and go rather with the 82-year-old widow. Longevity is an excellent indicator of physical strength. Getting back to your premise regarding humor, how funny is an old woman's dead husband? She gets the nod on that one too, for the 3-5 years she outlives him on average, there's no contest.

Comedy these days is all horseshit regardless of which sex is attemptin' it. This assertion is just another healthy pile dumped on top

    bahaha. neo-feminist garbage.

  19. Comedy is completely subjective. There's no such thing as a scientific test that can determine if anyone is any funnier than the next person. Funnier to whom?

"Well, on average, more people laughed at Dave than Susan."
