The end of the PC age is in sight. Microsoft has been working hard to take 'personal' out of your computer. Developers and users SHOULD have refused to jump on a new OS that forced MS certified drivers back in Win7. They SHOULD have refused to jump on UEFI secure OS that holds your BIOS hostage with Win10. Now you are expected to jump on an OS that forces secure platform encryption and MS account signups. Your data is locked and only MS has the keys. You can't be trusted to back up your own hard drive, don't be silly, MS cloud has got you... THEY GOT YOU... Soon you will be paying a subscription service to access your own data.

Dont be naive :D.............own a smartphone? Then you basicly already f and tracked all the time....................doesnt matter wich Multinational company is behind it(apple/android)..........or Google, Facebook,Ect.

MS has a monopoly on pc/laptop(operating systems) since whenever(widows95?)...............not saying it is a good thing but this is nothing new?

There are some alternatives but badly supported.........blame your politicians :D

Don't upgrade to Windows 11 if you have old/incompatible hardware — Unless you're an enthusiast who knows what they're doing, you should hold off on this update for now. Older hardware may be able to run Windows 11 via workarounds. However, it may lead to some functionality being partially or completely broken.

The verbiage leading to this was in the user agreement back in windows 10...

The "user agreement" is that thing nobody reads because they just want the software installed, like... now... dammit!

    I stopped at win7.

If you're on old hardware and don't play games, just take the Linux pill. Plenty of distros out there that still respect both your privacy and the age of your hardware. Lot of old machines out there that don't have to go to the scrap heap.

    I use windows 10.........because i have too(gaming) and i am lazy(Linux) :D

But ill only switch to 11, if/wenn they make me lol(remember vista). The hole IT/software industry has a habbit of bringing out broke products(beta s) and get away with it.....................be it operating systems or games or smartphones, ect ect *sigh* And they basicly own your data, user agreement, like some already said.

Personally, dont like to be tracked, but meh........nothing to hide either.......nothing much you can do about it, outside not using/buying it.

I have put Ubuntu 16.04 OS on one of my laptops. It is different to Windows 10 but not that hard to learn. The only reason I am still using Windows is I use Celtx. You can move Ubuntu 16.04 hard-drive between different brands of laptops, something you cannot do with Windows.

As was mentioned in the video I posted; you can expect big Computer manufactures to start releasing Win11 PCs with "Trusted Platform" encrypted secure boot as the ONLY boot option. That means no Linux, no older OS, no open OS, no third party diagnostic boot utilities... nothing but Windows 11 encrypted secure boot. Expect this from Dell, Lenovo, HP, Acer... any big name pre-built PC packaged with Windows 11 BIOS key. Data recovery from broken PCs is a big part of independent repair shops services. Data recovery from a Win11 encrypted hard drive will not likely be possible. If the motherboard fails, the hard drive data is gone. Lenovo is even vendor locking AMD Ryzen processors. CPUs taken from Lenovo systems will not work in any other brand motherboard. This reduces second hand reuse scenarios and fast tracks these parts into e-waste bins. The end user is forced to use premium expensive repair services from original vendor or trash it and buy new.

"What do you mean data recovery, you are using our CLOUD SERVICES, right?"

Don't know what he is talking about anyway. Most ANDROIDS you can skip the google sign in and side load apps. On everything I've ever owned anyway.

I am tired of repeating this. Linux. There are all flavours of linux distros. I ditched windows duing the times of Windows 98. Since then linux kept getting steadily better and better. I am a Debianist... but there is nothing wrong with any other distro. Except Corel. That really sucked big time.

Folks should keep their eyes on Chinese and Indian made hardware. They are developing their own OSes like Huawei. Some devices have custom versions of western software.

I don't mind the Chinese tracking me, unless they invade and take over. And they now have great coders along with the indians, who I would trust more with software than hardware.

Another benefit is Chinese hardware is cheaper and they seem to keep it well updated. Of course they may also throw tons of ads at you if you let them. They be big time capitalists these days.

You nailed it! As soon as I can have my old computer with Windows 10 on it repaired this piece of garbage is going in the closet.

Jane is really confused. She is working from home, running the UK government's salaries and pensions department and Microsoft want her to store all the data, including everyone's personal details on their cloud servers.
To make matters worse, her new computer will not allow us to install XP professional. The motherboard, which needless to say was produce in China, will not support it.

Like many, many people, I took the "free" upgrade when I had Windows 7 to get Windows 10.

    Wish I hadn't - but I can't really say why. I'm just too technologically un-savvy. It's just a feeling I can't quite shake.

I've run ubuntu (linux) since about 2014 when I moved away from windows 7 pro. Quite easy to become familiar with ubuntu. I still need windows 10 on my laptop but, ironically, cannot let it connect to the Internet in case windows updates such that a specific imaging software pack, which is no longer made or supported, would stop working. Instead of obtaining a second laptop I use a tablet, an android tablet.

What is the name of the "imaging software" you refer to? I also have a photo / graphics program which is old, but is so intuitive and I've used it so long, that I can make it sing-and-dance,....and make coffee. I don't know if it will run on any beyond XP. I was wondering if you have a somewhat similar situation. What imaging software are you speaking of?

    Thanks, OGN

I haven't jumped to Windows 11 yet, and still run Photoshop 7 on my PC. Works great after all these years.

@oldguynurse - but I can't make coffee with it!!! You are a star!

Most folks have never even heard of the program I've been using. It has a copyright date of (I think) 1998, and is named Iphoto and was made by a company named Ulead. I have the two discs for it. One is the program itself and one is the library for images and folders. I tried using Photoshop on another computer about ten years ago, but was so used to my much more intuitive one that I couldn't make heads or tails of it.

When it came out, Windows XP was the latest so it says it's compatible up to that one. Don't know if it will even install on any newer version. I'm gonna talk to my computer guru (soon as I find his phone number) and ask him if he could try installing it on something newer (but simple, no gaming, bells and whistles, etc). The laptop has XP but it's no longer supported by the Norton antivirus I've been covered by, and the video player no longer works either.
