willy wonka coat and tie dye question

    hi i want to make a tie dyed wonka coat, and i was wondering if anyone knew the website where you can buy them, and also:

    can you tie dye velvet? i am pretty sure you can, but i need to know how much it will shrink. if it shrinks like a size or two, that is fine, but i need to be sure it won't shrink too much.

    both questions need a bit of background.
    If you get polyester velvet, it will not dye properly. if the flocking (the fuzzy part) is cotton or rayon, Procion Dyes will work. Slide on over to San Rafel and ask the folks at Dharma Trading Company.

    if the base fabric that the flocking is attached to is poly, it wont shrink. If it isn't, expect shrinkage.

    will do :) i found a wonka coat at http://www.redballs.com, and i hope to have the dying start soon. i won't be doing that party myself; i help sell tie dyes for harmony, http://www.harmonytie-dyes.com (at art fairs) and i shall be having them do that for me. i'll post pictures as soon as possible.
