that's a huge joke. the majority will rise up in opposition? all the majority cares about is getting their consumer goodies from a supermarket with a smile from the cashier and not missing their favorite shows on television.

the world governments are already infringing upon the privacy of their citizens by requiring fingerprinting for passports. i don't see anybody marching the streets opposing that. it's complete BS, they have no right to ask individuals who have committed no crimes for their fingerprints. but they do it, and they have made it mandatory because they are the government.

i really hate the way these breakthroughs in science and technology are turning out to be the very means to imprison the individuals and take away their intrinsic right to privacy.

Of course it will be...like most things detrimental to our physical and psychological health (such as smoking cigarettes, joining the military, taking prescriptions, etc.) The media could market and advertise self-amputation as 'trendy' and some people would go ahead and do it.

What needs to happen is people need to have more accessibility to informative media which doesn't cover up the truth or promote propaganda and subliminal messages.

I'm never taking an electronic device under my skin. The idea makes my skin crawl. And to be honest,I don't think it'll catch on.Even in an infinite universe something are infinitely impossible.Sci-fi fantasy come true?Change the fantasy.I mean change the dream man. Also there should be a law like Asimov's laws of robotics that thought reading machines should not be developed - for the sake of the sanity of humanity. The fucked up psycho nerds who want to bring this kind of stuff into being should be taught some elementary lessons in humanity by a school of half-starving African kids and learn some humility.

That's absurd man. I'd never agree to having microchips implanted within my body. What if it short circuits, then what? Nothing is perfect.

Hm.. If someone makes a chip that lets you access the web through your mind but put restrictions on it, tracking and surveillance, or perhaps a nightvision module in your eye that could be used to turn off your sensory nerves during a riot.
All of these things are feasible and likely but what I think a lot of people forget to reckon with is the fact that as soon as someone produces a system like this and releases it there will be thousands working to reverse engineer it and make "un-restricted" versions.
The hackers wont ever go away cause they need them to bloody well programme the damn things ^^

This was a bad idea in 2007 when this thread first came to being, it is a bad idea now, and it will be a bad idea later. I do believe most conservitives will reject the idea as we have, so good, let the Dems take the dang things, thatway they can only kill off themselves

It depends. If the chip would let me interface directly with computer systems as I would like to, then I would probably do it. If the chip was something that designated me as property of the bankers or the Government I would not do it.and thanks everyone for posting...

Well, are we going to need chip implants to get a job and purchase food soon?

I expect most people would be psyched about being able to walk directly out of a store and have a radio signal deduct their groceries from their bank account, walk up to their house or car and have the door swing open for them, never have to carry an ID, credit card, or dollar bill again.
And I'm sure the fuzz would love to be able to track people so closely.
We're about to the point where the majority of people can keep their whole lives and identities on their phone and computer. It's not a big step from there to implants.
I know the idea has been suggested by government officials since long before the technology existed. And now we have the capability for that and more.
It creeps me the hell out. I'm sure most people would be standing in line though.

I wonder if Zallman and Thermaltake will make crazy looking copper heat sinks with flashing leds powered by thermocouples and the difference in ambient temps and body heat?

Yea',,, off to the baked bump thread I go.

The idea of them knowing everything you do is scary. They keep finding ways to make us more and more like their pets they are tryin to control. People need to wake up and realize what their government truly is.

it depends to what degree i am aware of the technology

    do i trust another's word?

to me i'd need to be completely sure that details recorded

are only the ones i agreed to.

so if it's a case of having blind faith rather

    in what i am told

i would not in the slightest.
