We all know that PEOPLE do things that treat women unequally. What we are asking is how is the STATE, THE GOVERNEMENT, or the LAW treating women unfairly? I work for a govt entity and they bend over backward to make sure that we feel like we females are being treated well.
I'm happy to hear that. What is the justification for arguing against making sure these protections stay in place?
I'm not trying to start a fuss, but I just honestly believe that discrimination against women is the exception and not the rule. I think women have it pretty good in America and I never see women being treated unfairly. I believe discrimination against males is a bigger concern right now (especially gay males.)
What is the justification for forgetting history? What is your justification for not giving a shit about immigrants in a country built on them?
No one argued that those protections shouldn't stay in place. What's being argued is your concept that women are being treated unequally.
Who's forgetting history? I remember history. What I'm trying to get through to you is that for the most part women DO NOT get discriminated against anymore, making this an entirely moot point. As for immigrants, I'm tired of my hard earned money being used to feed immigrant well-fare moms with 15 rugrats who can't even speak english.
What movement do we have to thank for that? What will we have to thank for that if it backslides? (and it has at times) I'm not arguing that males or gay males should be treated unfairly, obviously.
do you have an example of them not playing out in court equally? i'd bet that juries would be more likely to believe a woman, over a male, that her boss denied her a promotion because she wouldn't sleep with him. Do you disagree?
Good point Megare. The pendulumn has swung in our country. Everything is about reverse discrimination these days. The one thing I wouldn't want to be right now is a middle class white man. They have no chance at anything!
i think we're at the point where we need to focus on changing *individual* beliefs and not state laws. We need people to believe that women can sleep around as much as men without the negative stigma We need people to believe that men can be stay at home dads just like women can without the negative stigma. We need people to believe that women can be effective presidents. etc etc These are social changes, not legal ones
DITTO Megara. You hit the nail right on the head! The laws for equality are in place...it's the mind set of the people that still needs some work!
You guys have modern feminism today all wrong. Nobody is intested in going after anything that isn't truly warranted. Nice edit Megara..We DO need those things. There are guys on this board throwing around the term whore. I've even seen a girl on here get verbally attacked and told she has a gaping hole because she has the nerve to like big cocks..There are men who like big breasts..Where's the offense? Why not? What do you mean exactly?
I'm tiring of this relentless badgering against feminism. Think I'm going to go. You two have a nice Saturday night.
It's all done under the guise of cynicism.. Hey who cares anyway? It's the middle class white guys who have it roughest.[/sarcasm] We're all going to have to agree to disagree. It'll be cool when we agree on something different down the road. I don't hate. Peace.
Middle class white men have the hardest time procurring a job (because everyone is wanting to look PC and hire women and minorities.) There are fewer scholarships and educational opportunities for middle class white males. Middle Class white males will often get looked over for a promotion so that a minority can get it instead. I could go on and on.
but those aren't positive changes. women who sleep around make it so those of us who are against that are expected to put out before we are ready or comftrable with somone. Stay at home dads feel demasculated and rarely are as productive as a stay at home mom would be. women can be effective presidents, our intelligence is equal but there are other things that make us not so equal and the sooner we accept it and realize it's give and take and not all bad theeasier life wil;l be. I certainly don't want to be one of those bitter women who constantly complain about having no rights and blah blah blah and trying to cut my man's balls off and insist that I would never stay home with kids...why, what's the point? so I could do two jobs? I'm secure enough to not have to fight who I am and what I was born as.
