It's not the same thing though. We weren't fighting to get the joy of killing spiders...We were fighting to have shelters for battered women..To vote..To have choices.
Perhaps you've haven't had any horrible experiences...That's speaks highly for those civil rights activists that fought for our comfort.

Wow...appologies, but I'm too pickled to read all that...though I am sure it is well thought out and well intentioned.

It is just that I have my own life experience to draw on, and that of my grandmother, and that of my great, great grandam...then the further I look back in time...I see the links....even into the greek tragedy plays that were the old time soaps of today...and yes...women always had power.
In a time man has forgotten, but that lasted longer than the modern religions that we akanowledge today....God was a woman...

I can recall many women in history................

Seems you really do set your own limits...and I applaud you for awakening women to the fact that they always have had power...

...and behind every great man is a great woman... yeah tell that to the OP, he thinks the worst of past eras, other cultures and women in general. With men like him even if not a majority of women were oppressed there were some who had no control over their domain whatsoever cos of some domineering men and so women as a whole had to fight for those women who were unfortunate.

Alright, I'm blonde and a bit ditsy...would someone PLEASE explain what womens' voting rights have to do with modern-day equality?

I didn't realize womens' voting rights were a modern issue, lol...I mean, jeez it's been about a gazillion years since women weren't allowed to vote! I'm not sure why we're even talking about something that was taken care of ages ago.

If you can than I welcome you as my equal, shit sucks, and you have to work hard. First time you pull that I am A Woman shit all respect goes down the drain.

So, nobody sees the relevance of what the civil rights, & womans movement have done for them...
You do not think that there is any possibility that society can backslide? Not even with some of the latest news?

My mom was like 7 when that happened...it's said and done with. Women vote. Why are we still discussing like it's a current issue? I'm not trying to be a pain in the butt, I'm just trying to understand why voting rights is even being discussed, since it's an ancient issue that's already been taken care of.

34 Years is not ancient. Curious, why are you against it? Do you really believe that it's a non issue? Take a look at womens' rights globally. Take a close look at the creeping theocracy. There are still others having issues, even if you aren't.
Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.
I've had some bullshit go down in my day. I don't hate men. I work hard too.
Anyways, thanks for not being hostile.

    its 86...2006-1920= 86 years.

the ERA has never been ratified. I dont know why you are picking 1972 as the year for when women could vote. Women gained the vote in 1920....

edit: i think what the others are getting at is...when we talk about equality TODAY, why is the topic of voting brought up?

LIke I said, I'm just confused.

    Let me make an analogy.

If you started talking about freeing black slaves, I'd look at you funny because it's already been done! And a long time ago! So why are we still discussing it?

See what I mean? And yeah, women's voting rights is an ANCIENT issue. We've been voting for 86 years. Isn't there a more recent topic we can discuss? Something that's actually pertinent to the year 2006?

Women should vote. We've been voting since 1920. No point in talking about it anymore, lol :)
