It's tempting.. This will be the 50th anniversary, the first being at Strawberry Lake in Colorado. Fifty years qualifies it as a genuine hippie institution! Who would have thunk it! I went to the 2006 one in Colorado as a teenager. Full of experiences and memories that are hard to duplicate elsewhere. I attended my first pagan wedding there. It went on forever, since the officiants felt the need to honor the gods of every pantheon. Now that I'm a parent and family man, I have to think about things like COVID and fires. .The Forest Service was worried about fire hazards then, and is even more worried now--and I think with good reason. If a fire broke out there with 10,000 or more people gathered, it would be a disaster and could bring the Rainbow Family to an ignominious demise. Am I gittin' old?
Never been to a national just a few regionals back in the early '80,s the chance of ever going again are very very slim
I got back from my road trip yesterday and will be posting photos I took at the Gathering later. Hope you enjoy them!
The greeting gate I got there 4 days early so I could park in the main lot and camp in the woods nearby, so I spent most of my time in and around the parking lot. There were a lot of buses.
People gathered around the campfires The kitchens kept us well fed The trading circle When I went I thought there would be no problem since Colorado is a legal marijuana state, but the Gathering was on federal land where it's still illegal. Whenever the cops drove through everyone yelled, "Six up!" since cops carry six shooters.
I was there. Some 22 cases of Covid were identified. Well, I had a bad old man's cough for a few days. I played with children.
Yes, my neighbors where I was camped came down with covid and had to leave early. I was concerned since I had smoked pot with them but I felt fine, I had been quadruple vaccinated. For good measure I applied Chapstick a couple times a day and kept my pipes clean with alcohol pads. After I got back I tested negative. Sadly it looks like covid will be a part of any future gathering.
I believe it's in the north east . Perhaps upper New York state. If I be there look to Kid Village or a sign that say FIRST EARTH. I spin the Wheel of Universal Language.
If you mean this website it hasn't updated yet. They usually don't announce what area of the country the gathering will be in until around springtime, and don't give out the exact location until about a month beforehand. Rainbow Family of Living Light Unofficial Home Page (welcomehome.org)
