I think there may be some confusion about this whole mess. I am not some Matrix nerd or uneducated know-it-all. I am an A+ student majoring in Information Security. I know exactly what the Internet is. I also know what the requirements are to run the Internet. I haven't read 95% of my Computer Science college text books just to lie to you. The Internet requires servers to operate. That is true. But the servers are not the Internet. Look at it this way. Windows requires a computer, but Windows is not a computer. The Internet is a vast network made up of more than just hardware. There is advanced addressing schemes, network protocols, operating systems, cluster systems software, server software, interfacing software, security software, etc etc etc etc........... There is layer upon layer upon layer of software. This is only to maintain the operation of the Internet. Now you need to include the content. The content may include copywrited and patented crap that could be video, audio, software, text, images, and whatever the heck you people come to the Internet for. Let me ask something here. Who owns all that Internet content that is copywritten? Where is it located? You might say the copywritten content is located on a server. If the gov't owned the server, they sure as heck wouldn't own the content if it is copywritten. Likewise, they couldn't control the communications rights to it unless the legal owner of the content allows that. -Joe
Information copyright or not is on hardware, programs, operating systems ass are on hardware, its not free floating in fantasy land waiting for the tech caveman to create a way to get it. All the addressing is so that hardware can connect to hardware. It still is not a place its simply a thing a name to identify instead of a small scale "netowrk" it defines as a word of object multiple networks. If there is no servers offered to supply connectability and information there is no internet. Think of it this way, if there is a massive global loss of electricity then the internet could not function thus cease to exist. Its not a place a place would still be there. I am not sure what they are attemtping to teach now as I will admit I graduated in 1992 from UW and then 1995 was the last college class I took as orderd by my employer but still I am sure they did not create internetland since 1992. I too am not lacking paper on the wall, BS in computer technologies, MCSE, A+ (did it for giggles) N+, Novell, Cisco been there done it. I was working for Intermec Corp when I was still a teen in their systems secuirty department for my indiscretions with thier BBS line. Im telling ya its not a place its nothing more than a make up of multiple users and networks spanning the world now. Anyway I am sure we will never see eye to eye on this and realy we both have alot better things to do than to argue over something like this, you got school and a life, probably some good looking yougn lady that wishes you would spend less time talking to an old grouch like me and more time attentive to her needs and I have to head off to work and assist others in my community but I did enjoy this. Take care.
No, the Internet won't be free for long. Things like filtering torrent packets is the beginning of the end.
