I just recently ran across some vending machines that did not cash and only took ATM cards..interesting
not only cash but the whole concept of money, trade, markets in both senses of the word. that's a very long term eventually though. in terms of decades rather then centuries, yes, cash as a medium of every day transaction could well disappear in the very kinds of places it is most predominate now. it will still be printed/minted as commemorative collectors items. at least for a time, once it has disappeared from the ordinary transaction process.
I was just thinking that this morning while I was doing my budget for next month. I usually figure the numbers, then leave however much money I need for bills in the back account, disperse however much I decide to into savings accounts, then cash out the rest for expenses like gas, food, recreation, etc. I don't like to have to deal with keeping a register, so I prefer to spend in cash. I wonder how long I'll be able to that.
Cash will always have its function, but it will mostly disappear. Bitcoin is the future. Money as we know it is ridiculously outdated and needs an update.
well all these places that don't accept credit cards but operate an ATM right by the counter are gonna have some tough shit to deal with
That's a tough one. Maybe the only way to give without money will be to keep extra clothing on hand to give and buy them food. Maybe someone can come up with special prepackaged food items to purchase that can be given to someone on the spot. Canned or dry box goods wouldn't be as good as something someone could just open and eat. Also, donating to organizations that pass out food and clothing could be done automatically.
Ever since the first card with a magnetic strip on it was used for a financial transaction it was inevitable.
People who work under the table will not be very pleased. I think the trend is already here that will remain for a long period of time. Less cash transactions but not a total redundancy.
With an all electronic currency, the government could much easier track money, each transaction and really see where money is going. A new currency would rise. Something that could be traded, and also something that could be readily purchased electronically. The government would have to regulate the economy like a police state to keep people in check, to keep the population to reach a critical mass for a revolution.
