asking why is rap/hip hop is so great is like asking why is music so great. your all being too generic music is music just like any other art form theres no good or bad about it. its just personal preferance why doesnt everyone stop being such a fucking critic and just listen to wat they like.

You're right about the passion. The mainstream stuff of today is a bunch of bullshit consisting of very shallow and meaningless lyrics that really have no message, just idiocy and misogyny. But there are still a few rappers whose lyrics have meaning and substance, but, unfortunately, they are not as popular as some of the "fluff" rappers like 50-Cent's bitch ass. For example: Listen to some of Tupac's songs and tell me that there is no passion. Tupac is much better than that little bitch(probably you) in your sig pic.

You're also right about Eminem, he's a bitch and probably 69's 50-Cent after every show.

 

Rap helps prepetuate a false sense of opression in America's poorest communities, feeding off artificaly inspired angst. It allows people to blame "the man" for their ills in life instead of taking responsibility for their problems.

Evidently people have come into a hip hop forum to answer a question that is beyond their knowledge and understanding.

for instance a scenerio

man ask a mechanic and a stranger why is the ferrari so good

obviously the mechanic is in a position to answer the question efficiently because he understands cars he is knowledgeable interior and exterior.

however the stranger can only comment on the exterior of the ferrari. he however expects his opinon to carry weight.

from what i have seen rap has brought people together people of all races, creed
, shape and size.

it doesn't discrimintate in terms of race, Jin (Asian) , Eminiem (caucasian) etc You'll be damned to find a black britney spears or a black maryln manson or even asian.

songs can vary from gangsta to love to peace to freedom, i doubt youll find the variety in pop, rock or whatever. (maybe ragga and raggae)

beats, simplicity is the closest to perfection. nice and easy listening, you can listen to it any time any where: sex, smoking a blunt, clubs, partys, resting you name it

lyrics are very influential they can put forward clear or subtle messages what the listener interprets from the message depends on them.

Technically, rap isnt good at all. Its very easy music to make and play.

If you mean "why do people like it", then the answer is simple: Its all a matter of taste.

If you think what's popular is good rapping, or just all that rap is, you're sadly mistaken. Real rap takes flow and skill in putting together rhymes: Only several rappers actually do this cleverly. "There are 6 million ways to stretch rhymes over beats, and 2 million rappers are sharing the same three."
Alot of good rap is characterized by either 1. Good story telling/ or simply just good rhyming. or 2. creative beats and grooves. Some songs/artists have both. You can't judge raps potential by what's shown and heard on MTV. Where all artists capitalize on: 1. Generic ass-shaking beats 2. big money 3. thug life and/or 4. hot women.

This can be said about so many genres.

Punk. So easy to play, all you have to do is learn a few power chords distort the guitar so its unrecognizable and scream a bunch of random lyrics so no one can even understand what you're saying.

Electronica. Learn a few keys, come up with a melody, and loop everything.

etc.

This doesn't mean that any of these genres are bad. It just means that there are bad artists in every genre.

 

ok for me it is . it sucks big dicks. we have mental retarded niggers . and before you scream racist . rock roots comes from the blacks and number 2 music from mowtown was fantastic and a very crucial in the 1960s music and well into the 70s . no reason to settle for this dumb niggers when we know well blacks are extremly talented in the music . but hold on this white trash we have today cant make good music either . is the problem with the music bissnes executives . censorship by the goverment or just plain lack of talent in both black and white musicians. this is tough to answer . regardless both black and white cant come out with material like they did in the 60s 70s "some 80s lol" only a handfull of heavy metal bands in the 90s made any worth while music.
