Don't get me wrong, you saying that comment doesn't make me think you're racist or anything, it just seemed weird. And it was about reggae, I believe.
also...you see that the black panthers put down Jimi Hendrix for selling out to the "honkies" if I may put...and playing "white music" being rock and roll...but it's a generalization, man...you gotta look back past the black and white..why is everybody trying to disect the black and white thing? It doesn't matter what genre has more of a certain race...it's all groovy, man...
indeed. lets make PEACE MAN we both buffalo soldiers, the harder they come, THE HARDER WE FALL ooooh ONe and all after all i did play in a raggae group!
of course black and white doesent matter, but for the time it was the easiest way to get accross what i was saying
wtf man, soulrebel51 what's up? i've read yer posts and seems to me you are or at least behaving like a mentally retarted asshole- why you being such a prick? dear woodstockblazer, i love you!
RE: you see that the black panthers put down Jimi Hendrix for selling out to the "honkies" Yeah, well, the "honkies" were none too happy with a black/Native American couple buying a house in Suburban Seattle. One of my ex-coworkers (former job) had his parents practically run out of the neighbourhood on a rail for selling his house to em. Then their son turned out to later become this world famous guitar player, at which point THE SAME DAMN PEOPLE were gushing that "the Hendricks boy lived right NEXT DOOR!" Seems everyone was hating on Jimi. But then again Jimi didn't care. He was on a different plane and a different level.
Why do people always make race a issue. I think people should all try to get past the White and Black argument. I my self dont enjoy rap because I cant connect with it, does that mean its bad? Well for me it is but for other people it may be great. Again dont make statements like that it only leads to bad things.
I don't dislike rap cause it's made by African Americans. If I had a problem with that I'd be screwed - I'd have to hate two-tone, reggae, ska, Living Colour, Jimi Hendrix, etc. etc. and I certainly DON'T. I dislike it cause it's garbage. Repetitive drivel. No originality. Plus, I'm tired of hearing "n*gger", "f*ggot", "b*tch", the glorification of pimping (believe it or not, the pro-positive, hey let's be giving people their PROPS Digital Underground did this), the violence, etc. Is EVERYTHING about rap garbage? No, not at all. I wish I had a copy of "Temple of Boom" by Cypress Hill WITHOUT the words so I can just hear the INCREDIBLE soundscapes Muggs can produce. Problem is, it's all about carjacking, drugs, etc. over the sound. And sometimes you get something, like most of "Hello Nasty" that's pretty darn good. Don't hear much from Adam Horowitz and the boys, though. The latest darlings of EVERY single medium have music that's about one step above a metronome and lyrics like ben ovah to da fron an touch ya toes! ben ovah to da fron an touch ya toes! ben ovah to da fron an touch ya toes! ben ovah to da fron an touch ya toes! ben ovah to da fron an touch ya toes! ben ovah to da fron an touch ya toes! ben ovah to da fron an touch ya toes! ben ovah to da fron an touch ya toes! ben ovah to da fron an touch ya toes! I saw the Ying Yang Twins interviewed, I couldn't understand a word EITHER of them were saying. Between the Tourettes-like suddenly going into part of one of their songs "so hee we go play sum ba jaggie o (suddenly doing the chorus) jaggie jagga jagga jaggie jaggie jagga jagga jaggie jaggie jagga jagga jaggie jaggie jagga jagga jaggie jaggie jagga jagga jaggie jaggie jagga jagga jaggie! " and the fact that they were mushmouthed almost to the point of dysfunction made it excruciating. What are they on about? Oh, bending over so the boys can see your behind and genitals. Ah. Wonderful.
Careful, now. Some people use "monkey" as a racist epithet. I don't think you intended it that way...
Ok, Woodstock_Blazer, I'm on your side. Just because one dislikes rap does NOT mean one is racist. I myself do not enjoy rap or the style that goes along with it, but I do, on the other hand, enjoy some blues, jazz, and the works of Mr. James Hendrix. This is not about black people themselves. This is about the music that they generally have created. I'm sorry, but you can't deny that rap has its roots in African-Americans. It's not the group that I dislike at all, it's rap. Why? Because music should contain more music. I'm a musician and it takes more than a backbeat and ding-dings to impress me. Also, regional folk music that is directly from the people is usually quaint and simple, but it also usually possesses a certain purity of emotion to which we all can relate. With rap and hip-hop, I don't get that. I don't find it pleasing to the ear like the Grateful Dead or Bob Dylan or Joni Mitchell. For me, it's just not fun to listen to. But to each her own, right? Just an opinion.
Exactly, neither side is going to give, you'll just end up going over the same things over and over again... I like rap/hip-hop... I don't really give a shit if anyone else does or doesn't, so long as they don't tell me not to listen to it, THEN I'll get pissed off about it.
thats how i see it as well, its just a matter of taste. Personally, i do not like rap and hip-hop...but i have had to listen to it a whole lot while hanging around with my friends, and i have heard some songs that are alright...cant remember them, but i know that not all rap is bad. And if its bad, then i keep my mouth shut...but if its REALLY bad, then i ask them to change the music, which they are willing to do so. Its just that its not what i like to listen to... as long as its not that shit from the radio, man that music drives me nuts...
hey youd like my world thinking philosophy then. i believe it could go far. basically no one, no matter how good and evil things look can be wrong, therefore you shouldent be allowed to physically hurt or kill them (like extremists) but fairs fair to personally disagree with them. i can sound like i think im right right right but it aint so. Guess we should all say 'in my opinoin' more including me. there is world thinking and self-thinking, the world from a whole view- ie: i hate rap but millions of fans cant be wrong, and from a self-view: ie in my case rap is.. well we all know what i think!
RE: so long as they don't tell me not to listen to it, THEN I'll get pissed off about it I've never said such a thing. I was asked why it's good. I don't see any redeeming feature about it.
