I doubt it's a national difference, especially since I've lived in the US for part of my life, but damn... that does sound pretty terrible.
Yeah, every time you post after me you say something rude... if you find me so stupid please just ignore me. Obviously you have never heard of the concept of exaggeration, I was just illustrating that always having to share a bathroom with men would be very very unpleasant.
I don't find you stupid; I don't even know you. I can't remember ever seeing you before in the 5+ years I've been posting here. My comment was an exaggeration as well, meant to point out the obvious melodrama of your comment. I don't see why sharing a bathroom with men should seem so unpleasant to you, but if it does, fine. My comment was somewhat less than serious.
If women bicker like that in the Ladies Room, some guy will end up killing someone in the Person's Room. Either that or we'll pee outside on the lawn. (Isn't there any place that we find some peace and quiet.)
See... it wouldn't work out for anybody... therefore it is a bad idea. P.S. Men bicker all the time but since you don't agree and you don't want to hear women and want some "peace and quiet" go away
Melodrama adds spice to life. Also, he was saying that women all bicker and it seemed he was looking for some peace and quiet and that a man would kill a woman if they had to share a bathroom, so I won't apologize. Since melodrama offends you, you should be offended by him since that is way more melodramatic than what I said. I said I'd die... he said someone would be murdered... that is way worse.
Because unfortunately men have a tendency to rape women when cornered in an out-of-the-way semi-private location. Half-joking, but seriously, no, it's true. It happens. Not every man will do this obviously but encouraging them to share similar toilet stalls increases the risk.
Melodrama doesn't offend me, and I agree that his comment was stupid. This whole thread is stupid. This seems like a good point, but I think it can be pretty easily deconstructed. First, unisex restrooms would have twice the traffic, so less opportunity for rapes to take place. But the most important point is that, if a guy wants to rape some girl, I doubt he has a problem going in the women's restroom to begin with; it's not going to be like, 'shit, I can't go in there! That's the women's room!' You see what I mean?
The safety of a unisex restroom is going to depend on the location. I would use one in an office building, but not a bus station. The chances of becoming a crime victim are quite different.
Last week I went to the bathroom in a cafe and there were separate lavatories for men and women but the sink area was shared.. that was bad enough for me. That was also when I first realised I'd never put lipstick on in front of a man haha. I felt a right tit doing that in front of a fella.
