When I walk outside, I'm not kidding about the onslaught of negativity.. and I live in a supposed liberal college town. Why? Because my hair doesn't look like what people think dreads should be, especially other dreadheads. People can say all they want about how negative comments don't bother them ever, but it does get on your nerves to hear people tell me over and over that my dreads "aren't right" because they don't look neat, or the same.
But that's not elitism right?

Besides, I don't have nor feel like spending $300 on my hair.. and that would only be the first steps.

I have dreads because I let my hair do it's own thing. I didn't force them any way. I didn't force the hair to go in a way to be neat. My hair is strong and actually healthy for a change. I actually want to keep my dreads forever. I said this before, but unlike a lot of people, it isn't just hair to me. Hate me for it all you want.

and yes, it does help to combat the new stereotype of dreadlocks that in order to have "good" dreads, you have to pay for it.

You don't have to be so defensive! As I said, you're doing your own thing with your hair which is great. Methods mean nothing. What's your point?
