same reason dudes with muscles put a sig pic of themselves shirtless and studying their telephone...they want it clear what they are with no mistake or assumptions...

With Hip, I specifically wanted others to know I was female. It's a fun, festive, jovial, playful site with the intention of "partying" with guys. Most every other forum I've been involved in I use a different name that is a combination of my kids' names. It looks "female" though....but not because I wanted it to.

Psychologically, I think men like character names that are inidicative of some type of trait they see in themselves.

Women lean toward being descriptive about their personality.

That's an interesting take on things. I wonder if we can dig deeper into this?

well, my nickname was a reference to my nickname in high school. people called me jay, whatever. babyjay, somehow came to mind.

high0nsunshine was because i like to get stoned, and i like sunshine. that username is a much better explanation of my personality than babyjay. but i was younger when i thought of that one, so i think thats why it sucks.

I like it, and I am glad you chose it, and we are all different, so let's be different.

Hell, my album is full of skin. Some think slut, and flirt, and fap, and bla bla bla. Oh well.

Hey hey. So I guess you see me spoiled, and not see me cool. You hate all girls though.

Any time a woman says this, I wonder what is going on in her head that makes her think she has to say this.

They get off on it, bro. It's girl power. It's 'MY VAGINA,' in a sea of male-users. They get to be the 5 or 6 identifiable women posters. (the ones that choose fruity ass girly names).

There's plenty of female posters here who don't have usernames like that. The ones that do either:

    a) haven't given it much thought and still like pink, so naturally flowergirl or something stereotypical is still close to heart when choosing "a cool username."

    b) not sure about the degree of consciousness, but want to stand out as a FEMALE first.

    :daisy: Looks like I'm right.

    those are the same thing.

I think men are actually less likely to pick a username based on their personality or trait, while girls are. Men are likely to pick a username based on interests.

"Jovial boy" for example sounds gay. A girl though can get away with it.

When I was 14 I was 'tuna' on a forum. I was mistaken as a male for a long time, until I got attention from other regular posters, who looked at my profile and found I was a girl. It didn't really matter what gender I was, it was just surprising to everyone because they assumed I was a boy.

I've done it on here a lot of the time, mistaken girls for boys and boys for girls. I guess I would like to think I'd treat people the same regardless if they were male or female. That means, I'd respond to them - the way they are and what they say - regardless if they were male of female. It doesn't mean I'm going to treat everyone the same.

I feel like you are responding to Aerianne, knowing she is a female, and you are responding to the FACT she is female more than what she is actually saying. Her argument is perfectly valid, yet you're being rather patronizing.

Perhaps the question isn't "Why do girls state they are girls in their usernames" but "why DON'T girls state they are girls in their username". The majority don't, and as we can agree most people assume the gender of any poster to be male, maybe the reason many girls use genderless usernames is to be on equal posting ground as everyone else (i.e. males).

Read this first thinking I'm female, then read it again thinking I'm male. Is your response different?

ya you keep thinking that those 2 categories apply any where other than in your world

this attitude explains why you are ''overlooked'' lol

i've only had to ask twice in over 20 thousand posts and 4 years here and both times i guessed right...

then again i dont cruise the forum for female sounding names to zero in on

i also disagree with the majority of posters being male [here]...thats not my experience at all

Rolling, he isn't studying his telephone. He is using the phone to take a pic of himself flexing in the mirror.

Aerianne hasn’t even formulated an argument on this thread, so I don't know where you're getting that from. The only thing she’s done thus far is try to start an argument by attacking the image in my sig and responding to other people's comments that are going off topic in an attempt to stir up more shit.

I’m not saying the majority of girls are doing this. Again, you're pulling shit out of your ass to try and add validity to your statements. I only stated it's something you tend to see girls do that guys tend not to. The question is quite simply, why the girls who do in fact do it choose to do so. It doesn’t matter if there are 10 girls that have a female identifier in their username, or 1000.

No. But perhaps if you go back and read this thread over again, you’ll understand what the original question was and can actually come up with a response that's on point ;)

Interesting thoughts. But again, why not just use the male/female gender identification in your profile. Is the name identifier more powerful than the gender ID?

I didn't attack shit and especially not your stupid mirror pic.
Dude, you need to go back and read for clarity and comprehension or just drop my name from your crappy, chump-ass, whining thread all together.

Seems to me you are stirring up more shit than anyone else in this thread. She's not "attacking" your sig pic....you are the one who keeps drawing attention to it.

Her point was valid and on topic. Why are you being an ass?

Maybe if its reworded you might understand? She was saying that posts can be taken quite differently if it comes from a male or female. By using a female identifier, you can avoid confusion. I've seen many posts made by women who are frustrated that everyone on line mistakes them for being male.

Another idea: Women love showing off their femininity. They wear pretty dresses, makeup, jewelry, etc. Online, people can't see these things, and a pretty feminine user name could be a way to make up for that.

 Please, you've been trying to take subtle cheap shots throughout this whole thread. You think you're so smart that people can't pick up on your little innuendos? Let us not forget that you were the 1st person to jump on JoKings comment.

You want your name to be out of this thread then simply stay out of it. Either that or stop trying to stir shit up with your little sly comments.

Who really notices that? I know I don't. I think women empowering themselves is a fairly new high, so before they pick something more specific, 'powerpuffgirl' is an easier way to get noticed.

Men, have been empowered for so long that expressing they are a male in their username is null. So we're free to pick anime names, names that don't make sense, silly shit that amuses us.
