http://www.ted.com/talks/ethan_nadelmann_why_we_need_to_end_the_war_on_drugs Amazing talk! I love his passion. I thought to put this here since it is a topic of policy. When this question comes up in other public spheres, it is often the case that the strongest voices opposing it are those who know the least about the issue; ie, the people who've never smoked pot and think everyone who does is a "stupid stoner" talk loudly about keeping it illegal. I'd like to hear some -intelligent- arguments for why drugs should remain criminal.
easy, if we say a significant portion of the population uses drugs, by making it criminal we can make it mor unlikely that these people will be highly successful. that way they will be less people to compete with for resources like money
Nadlemann's great, he's the architect of all our legalization and drug policy reform in this country - amazing guy, great speaker, etc. I forget he had a TED talk, I'd meant to see it. *edit* check out the priceless comment from "Rick L" - I'm pretty sure he's trolling, but someone should probably rip him a new one anyway...
It's a person's right to ingest or smoke or....whatever, with whatever they desire. That's what I say. This illegality of certain substances like weed and molly while even more dangerous substances like alcohol are freely distributed rankles me.
