Yah, yah. Heard that Retrumplican talking point before, many times. Like all the other ones, it's half-baked--based on simplistic thinking and limited info. Basicly, it seizes on the word "socialist" in the Nazi acronym and runs with it, without consideration of historical context. Let's start with the political meaning of "left" and "right". The terms originated from the seating arrangements in the eighteenth century French National Assembly. Supporters of privilege and hierarchy--monarchists and aristocrats--sat on the right. Commoners and opponents of privilege sat on the left.

Now let's look at National Socialism. Was it "Left"? Was it even Socialist? I go along with Michael Ray's article in Encyclopedia Britannica who says :"No, not in any meaningful way, and certainly not after 1934...By the late 1920s,...with the German economy in free fall, Hitler had enlisted support from wealthy industrialists who sought to pursue avowedly anti-socialist policies.." Were the Nazis Socialists? After that, "Their policies and treatment of left-wing opponents show they were not socialists in any meaningful sense".The Nazis were not socialists - Full Fact They drew support from the Gereman burghers and shop keepers, and eventually the Big Business elite, cuz they beat up real Socialists and Communists.According to Historian and Hitler expert Ian Kershaw, "Hitler was never a socialist". (Hitler: A Biography).What Nazism was instead was a populist, nativist, racist, xenophobic movement organized as a cult of personality. In other words, basically the same as the MAGA movement today, devoted to their Dear Leader Donald Trump.

Ya know we go through these explanations on a regular bases but people keep repeating the same old misinformation and misunderstanding of politics and history. Then we have to go back and re-research and re-post how these people are demonstrably wrong. At least I do as I forget where I got the real information that dispels these misunderstandings.

What we need to do, or rather I guess I need to do if I ever get the time, is post a locked sticky in the politics section that addresses this stuff. That way when someone posts something like this we can just say go to the sticky on "X" read it and let us know what parts you don't understand or disagree with.

One aspect of Fascism we haven't talked about is the Big Lie, or Große Lüge as the Nazis called it. An important development that helped pave the way for this sort of thing was Postmodernism--the ultra-relativistic notion that became the rage in humanities departments around the world during the mid-to-late 20th century. Post-modernists denied the reality of objective truth. The philosophy eventually foundered on its own anti-scientific extremism, but in popular form it was taken up by Steve Bannon, once Trump's major political strategist, and by Kellyanne Conway, Trump's one-time Senior Counselor, who introduced "alternative truths' and "alternative facts' to our vocabulary.. In this regard, you might check out JPN2's recent posts. (Not saying he's a liar; he could simply be duped). I myself think nothing is certain, not even that. I ultimately bet on reality. But I prefer educated bets based on the best available evidence and most credible sources. It's a judgment call, but my judgment tells me the stuff Trump and his Q and MAGA sources are putting out is pure garbola. Not the persistent lack of source citations. No, Trump did not support our NATO allies, and he preferred Putin's word to that of his own intelligence officers. He's a cult leader, and his supporters have their heads up his ass.

The main problem with post modernism is that it denies objective truth, yet at the same time claims to be objectively true.

Much like Trump, he denies objective truth yet claims that his version of objective truth is true, and if you don't agree with his objective truth it's because you don't believe in objective truth.
