Oh Wow. "Morning Joe" Scarborough on MSNBC said that we should be thankfull to Joe Mancin for stopping the Build Back Better thus preventing more inflation.

Unfortunately, Desantis seems to be made for the role--a younger Trump, just as demagogic and authoritarian, but without some of the baggage. Democracy would be in big trouble!

I hear Mike Pence is considering running. If he runs opposite Trump that could get really ugly!

It's inevitable. They've tried to rid the US of anything from the new deal, ( and have stated as much)- unions, regulations on big business, social security, any safety nets, etc, etc for decades. They're relentless and sooner or later they knew ( like now), that they would own the supreme court and will soon own the senate, the House and probably the presidency. They NEVER stop with their anti democratic plans , including making it difficult to vote, their lying, their absolutely shameless cheating and I think that any time regular citizens and progressive democrats relax their guard for any amount of time---there they are-- trying to turn back anything that is progressive and would help most working citizens. They are of a type and now have finally convinced a great number of voters that they will "save America."

They will never stop their machinations and anti democratic ways until the US is twisted so far out of shape that it resembles other nations with fascistic strong men as "leaders"and it may take generations to realize what is now happening---if that realization comes at all ,when it then may be too late to make changes to reclaim a government that at least had SOME idea of the hard won equity and lawful behavior fought for by those who came before the crooked , shameless fucks that are now close to owning us all. But never mind. Just BUY MORE--BUY MORE NOW. Look away. Nothing to see here.

Excellent idea for Texas to become it's own country. No more federal aid which is about 33 percent of their annual budget.

More than 1 million voters switch to GOP in warning for Dems

But nowhere is the shift more pronounced — and dangerous for Democrats — than in the suburbs, where well-educated swing voters who turned against Trump's Republican Party in recent years appear to be swinging back. Over the last year, far more people are switching to the GOP across suburban counties from Denver to Atlanta and Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Republicans also gained ground in counties around medium-size cities such as Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Raleigh, North Carolina; Augusta, Georgia; and Des Moines, Iowa.

we'll see which way they swing after the latest SCOTUS decisions. One of the things about switching to authoritarian parties is that if they win it's hard t switch back!

That's part of it. There are also the headwinds of inflation and fears of recession which thoughtless voters blame on the incumbents and reflexively vote for change--in this case from the frying pan into the fire. There's also the problem of rational ignorance, which is exacerbated by the ideological divide in our society and the power of the internet. "Rational ignorance" in public opinion and economist parlance, refers to the tendency deliberately to remain uninformed in order to concentrate attention on more salient issues (sports, the stock market, chasing skirts, getting ahead, etc.) or to avoid unpleasant facts. They leave it to trusted specialists (FOX? Alex Jones???) to figure it all out for them. I have several friends, some highly educated, who proudly proclaim that they've stopped watching the news cuz its too upsetting. One is absorbed with history books-- lately the Lewis and Clark expedition, and can tell you the inventory of supplies for that down to the last bag of rice and potatoes. But clueless about Jan. 6, 2021 and the congressional hearings on that subject. And they go by the assumption that, since this is America, really bad results won't happen, cuz they never have before. I fear that when they wake up, it will be too late.

I agree, especially about those who refuse to watch the news.

Unfortunately the shift to the right is also a decent into a theocracy championed by a malfunctioning Supreme Court. In Bremerton, Washington the Supreme Court overruled local jurisdictions and it OK for a football coach to hold a prayer meeting on the football field…..while on the job! OMG! Talk about explicitly supporting the Christian religion. Myopic. Does anyone really believe the decision would have been the same for any other religion….or an atheist group?

Yeah, here in PA we can have Christian school clubs but not an “After School Satan Club”.

Pennsylvania elementary school rejects creating ‘After School Satan Club’
Heaven forbid we teach about science and not original sin and eternal damnation out side of the curriculum and after hours with no affiliation with the school.
