Welp, When I was really little, like 7, my favorite band was korn, and after i saw them, it was like i didn't have any other choice.. but no parent in their right mind is gonna let their 7 year old get dreads. So, I waited.. and waited.. and waited, for 11 years, wanting dreads more and more every single day. I hated maintaing my long ass hair, washing it every single day, brushin' it all the time, having to keep it neat and presentable as to not come off as 'dirty' and 'gross'. Though, I donno why i didn't just do the natural method my freshman year in highschool cause i just didn't give a shit about my hair, by then. I'd go without washing/brushing/doing anything to it for weeks, sometimes months. I went almost 3 months without fuckin' with it at all, wish i'da stuck with it, i'd prolly have some bad ass dreads right now, haha. But idk, over the past 11 or so years, dreads just grew on me, like.. it's not even something i want.. it just has to be this way, haha. I have to have them, call it destiny.
absolutely. it's just hair. my aunt and uncle actually kinda wanna dread my 7 year old cousins hair. she hates brushing and washing it. i doubt they'd let her neglect though. and i doubt she'd have the kahoonies to stick it out either way. she'd probably get teased a bit at school when her hair was in the crappy looking fluffy/loosy/crazy stages and she's pretty sensitive to other peoples opinions of her. too bad.
dude that's lame, kids should be allowed their own freedom of expression - forcing them to shave or dread is as bad as someone else's parents not allowing them to shave or dread their hair, just the other side of the coin my children will be allowed to do pretty much whatever they like hair/clothing wise (i would only draw the line at overly sexualised clothing on a child) anyway, i have dreads mainly because i like them aesthetically, but also because my hair always annoyed me, it was curly, frizzy and had a mind of it's own. i do like that they are subverting the homogenised media idea of 'beautiful' also, and that it is a way of honouring my celtic heritage
ah good old internet and lack of facial expressions/tone of voice to make jokes obvious it's all good then
I got dreads cuz they look fuckin radical I actually used to backcomb my hair in the morning so it was mad huge and knatty, so dreads seemed a good choice. That and I hoped that they would attract people of a certain wavelength to me, and spark some conversation, tho now im almost tired of explaining the concept of dreads to people If I were to redo mine i'd definitely try neglect to see what my hair would do naturally, but Ima wait and see how my backcombed dreadums progress... Im hoping that fatties only look funny when they are relatively short, so maybe they'll look supreme when they get some more length. I just don't quite have the volume that I thought dreads would have on me.
I got dreads for a few reasons. First off, I obviously like the way they look. Secondly, my natural hair is very thin and straight and breaks easily, so its always hard for me to keep my hair long, especially when I color it, which weakens it more, and I don't like my hair short. So dreads were a way to have it long without breaking so easily. I've always looked weird as hell, so dreads didn't change the way people reacted to me... they already reacted that way. Also, I've always been patient, so they didn't have an effect on that either. To me, dreads are just a hairstyle and that's exactly how I treat them. If someone doesn't like them, then I could care less. There's much better reasons for people to hate me than my hair and I'm happy to give them to them if they insist.
Believe it or not, I have a buddy who has just about the same hair, minus the red and the mature dreads. His hair is brown, but he's got the longer front/sides and the poofy back, he's also working on dreading the front using nelect method... pretty pumped to see how it turns out. But yours looks kickass Diggin the red:cheers2:
