    Why?

He says he wants to move past it...

You do that by owning up to what you say, and apologizing for saying it, not by apologizing for the way it was said or expressed.

Let me guess: you probably rub your dog's nose in it,to house train him, right?
I'm not on Jaime side at all but you guys are attacking him like a pack of dogs and that's just not cool. Enough is enough already!

First off, your guess as to the way I treat my dog is wrong, but thanks for making assumptions about a totally unrelated subject and trying to attack me with it.

And, as I said... If he wants to move past it, he would apologize for what he said, not the way he said it.

And if you wanted to move past it, you would do so, but apparently you don't.

And as for me, I don't want to move past, brush aside or gloss over such blatant character assassination attempts as he tried repeatedly, unless he apologizes for it...

But I am more then happy to wait for him to respond, unless of course you wish to take up his torch and continue it on until then as you have been doing.

    Good enough for me, too.

There's nothing wrong with having opinions. It's a given that we all have opinions that others may not agree with. The best we can do is not push ours on other people.

I don't see that BFJ needs to apologize for having opinions. It's enough that he recognizes that others do not deserve his disgust, or ridicule simply because they don't share his opinions. For that much, he did apologize.

As far as I'm concerned, welcome back to the fold, BFJ.

I don't know. You would have to ask people who find him so fascinating.

Hope the propriety combatants have all calmed down. This thread really took an off-topic turn for a while. Which is good - I found it entertaining and even a little enlightening about ppl's attitudes.

Anyhow, I just posted that article Ageing and Attraction to Youth that I wrote some years ago. Yes, I have been aware of my attraction to youth for some time now.

    It is here:

Alright, I was a little harsh about the way I said things... (I'm going to blame smoking crappy weed rather then good weed)...

So, I apologize to bfj for saying the things I did... in the manner I did... :)

I wish the moderators (whoever they are) could just delete this whole thread and we could all just start off fresh with peace and kyndness in our hearts.

I don't know, Jamie. I like this thread for a few reasons.

    1. It's an honorarium of sorts to Shale, who I think is about as deserving as anyone here.
    2. It's a testament to the power of reason.
    3. It's a testament to the power of admitting when we're wrong.
    4. It's a testament to our ability to forgive.

It's not so much how we start off, it's how we end up that counts. :D

Yeah, I don't like deleting threads. They can remain as a reference to a process - FOREVER - or until our star goes supernova.

Actually, I sent a PM to the mods asking them to lock the thread about the time some proselytizing spammer put in some bible quotes. Then things seemed to turn around for the better so I sent them another PM saying nevermind.

Without locking, however, this thread may never die. Someone will happen across one post on it and just have to make a reply. Seen this on posts that started in 2005 and are still active.

Great article and very true, from my perspective.
Younger people haven't yet had the opportunity to understand how this works, or why... but they will. :D
