all these songs are as rock as it gets. And its good stuff .Historically, it isnt the non conformity thats consistent, its the fact that peeps who grew upwith their generations brand of rock, always dislike the new rock.lol

And here we have the goth rock. The thing that makes rock what it is, no matter the type..with the exception of soft rock, is the drive behind it all.

There's still some good stuff being recorded now and then, but not in large quantities, and the public for the most part barely notices.

People are distracted by so many different things, and the younger people who spend the most on music like the young singer personalities and dance-oriented pop video material. Classic rock no longer has a strong fan base that's willing to spend money.

Also, classic rock is no longer strongly connected to a particular culture or city. Most rock albums are recorded in Los Angeles, which cares a lot more about TV and film, or Nashville, which has a country culture. Rock has become sort of homeless. :-(

Exactly. For older rock fans who used to be deep into Prince and Michael Jackson, it doesn't seem like so much has changed:

I prefer the more blues-based guitar-oriented rock, most of the time, but I can still get into the black funky stuff.

    Truth has no expiration date.
The internet is a bigger change for human kind than the Gutenberg Press.

  6. I'm confused now. Death metal is rock, is it not?

Are you saying the Clash were not a rock act but a pop act? I'm about to set this thread on fire. (I realize this will only affect my computer and you cannot set the internet on fire.)

Someone has to clear things up for me. Rock is just a four letter word for "rock 'n' roll". Rock and roll in its most pure form would be like Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard... I don't see how any style of rock can be any more or less rock than any other style of rock.

I'm only thirty-four...I don't think this is about me being a crotchety old geezer who just can't understand the rock of today. It certainly isn't too loud for me. It isn't too rebellious for me. It isn't too unique for me. It isn't too complicated for me. But I hate Buckcherry. Why?

Lol At least I would consider that tune by the Clash, pop.
You most likely hate Buckcherry cause they suck. To me they do, anyway. Same ol 145 boogie progressions. They deliver them well, but, doesnt help a great deal.

I wouldnt say death metal is rock, per se..Rock on steroids maybe, but thrash , speed, death, core, and math..including black and Djent, are an attitude and style of playing that are totally different . I dont play rock tunes..even hard rock, the same way I play metal...its a different frame of mind and plsying technique. Im not tslking about loudness or speed.when I play metal, I feel like I'm about to rip somebody's balls off. Lol its true!

. " Rock is just a four letter word for "rock 'n' roll". Rock and roll in its most pure form would be like Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard.."

Yes, and that four letter word encompasses a lot now.
my thoughts on the artists you mention as pure form of rock, I would say more like rock in its infancy. For its time, it was really innovative and pure..very true.

Rock has grown up , and even old...but it sure isnt dead!

  12. I almost have to laugh reading your posts briezie. The things you say are so outlandish to me. It's like we live on two different planets, but hopefully we can agree that living on different planets is awesome.

You think rock and roll has matured?! Granted I don't know if it was ever "mature." Or if it has anything to do with maturity. But rock musicians today are not what you would call "mature." Or if they are, isn't that horrible? You can bring Nickelback home to your mom and dad as "mature young men" who have made a substantive "career" of "rocking"?

Hehe ,its all good Neon. Individuality is the very reason we have all the different styles and opinions. Im just calling it from my experience of being neck deep in the industry, and my own perspective as a player who does it everyday, all day pretty much in all aspects of making the very music wrre talking about.. I only relate the things I do..outlandish as they might be, about how I feel when playing different styles..which I play everything from jazz to metal, and the different styles bring something out of me, as well as what I have to put in it to deliver it in a certain manner. I can play the same scale, and make it sound totally different , through my delivery .. i know what has to go into rock as much as i do into jazz to make them jazz or rock.i also recognise those feelings for what they are in what i listen to.Make fun of Nickleback all you want, but i know first hand what it takes to deliver what they do, and i am far beyond being prejudice , and give credit where due based on that.im very proficient at my craft..not to brag, but so maybe you might understand me a bit when I tell you that. And yes, I absolutely feel rock has matured in the sense that, the players are better at their playing than ever, the dudes I play with are serious about it and are more responsible across the board compared to the late 70s and 80s when we were just wild as hell.

And the music itself had come into itself too. The structures are good , they are innovative and executed well. Now, im not talking about the garage band calibre here, or the hobbyist. Ive been on this ride for more years as I care to say, and its totally different now..and not in a bad way. As far as the playing itself goes.

I mean, Im sure as a player, you understand what Im talking about? You say yourself, you arent proficient, so im thinking that perhaps, and correct me if im wrong here, you havent played all styles in front of lots of peeps..so really, untill ones does, they dont quite understand. Not a bad thing, its just not the same

Tell you what, if I asked these guys to my studio to work on a project, I would be my money they would certainly understand thoroughly how to rehearse and work to get things tight and sounding as it should. Thats evident in the way they play. Very evident. So that in itself I would call mature. I dont give a ratts ass what they do on their own time, or how stupid they might or might not act.

I dont mind hearing your perspective as a green player either..or even the listener who doesnt play at all. In fact I enjoy it. Always learning..feedback is one of the things that helps one become a better player.

Speaking of Ratt..they came out with a couple of good rock tunes..no not the filler shit and garbage they played on the mainstream radio.. but songs like Lay it down and Right between the eyes. Pretty rocky stuff.
Pink Faries need to go back to the garage. Their sound isnt rock or anything really ,and they cant play worth a shit.Damn train wreck. But hey, if you like em? More power to you.
