I mean seriously I go to the mall barefoot and some people are like WTF Bare feet or bare face same kind of shit. How is social pressure to wear shoes different then my paste below ? 100s of differences could be pointed out, severity of consequences but on a level its the same shit your breaking a social norm if you dont comply. Most Muslims Don't Like Women To Dress Like This
Yep it’s annoying. Don’t often get thrown out but sometimes get stupid comments. The difficulty now is with mandatory masks (and being exempt), going in with a bare face and bare feet you’re asking for trouble. For much of the last year I gave up barefooting because of that. I did get a nice comment from a woman the other day - “You remind me of Australia, they didn’t wear shoes either”. Had a quick chat about barefooting and she wished me a good day. But I long for these rules to end so I can freely go barefoot in shops and all restaurants again
It's a matter of numbers. The masses always get their way. You would have to individually reprogram millions of people into seeing things your way. This is physically not feasible, unless you're one of those genuinely skilled and charismatic rabble-rousers, who have enough oratory talent to brainwash the average joes by appealing to their most base desires. And frankly, people just aren't passionate enough about feet to start a barefoot cultural revolution. Also, the further up north you go, and the colder it gets, the less support your desires will have, as most people are not willing to freeze themselves for a lifestyle.
I think it just takes time. 100 years ago people thought that huge cotton suits were the bare minimum to go to the beach. 70 years ago you'd be hard pressed to find a movie containing 'damn'. 50 years ago gay people were considered ill. Society changes with the times. I hold a strong personal belief that in 60 years time barefooting will be the norm in situations where it is reasonable (aka 95% of the time). Either way, I'm still gonna keep going barefoot. The more us barefooters keep going barefoot and explaining the benefits, the more normal barefooting will become.
I think people are just thrown off by it and you mix that with how they are raised, and what their beliefs are... I think its just a normal reaction. Doesn't mean its right though. Like one of those things where if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say it at all? Like in my eyes, how is the sole of a foot harming the ground/floor/stores more than the sole of a shoe? Ill never get it. People just need to worry about themselves.
You want to know how strong the force of culture is? Consider this riveting article from the Washington Post today about a woman who survived the Florida condo collapse because she woke up as the building began to shake: Then Monteagudo heard a crack. There was a line in the wall coming down from the ceiling — about two fingers wide. “Then it started getting wider and wider as I watched,” she said. “Something said, you have to run. You have to run immediately.” “I ran to my bedroom, and took off my robe and changed into any dress and any sandals. I ran to the dining room table, I got my purse and my credit cards. I took the key, I blew out the candle that I light every night for Guadalupe of Mexico,” she said. “I blew out the candle, just in case.” Monteagudo ran to the stairs, descending quickly. Between the sixth and fourth floors, there was a noise — and she realized the building was falling. She realizes the building is falling, and thank God she got out in time. But still she took the time to change out of her robe into a dress and to put sandals on her feet. Those extra minutes could have cost her her life, but still she felt compelled.
