For me its the feeling of being right at home, plus the dutchies sense of humour.plus party party party.
Amsterdam is everything San-Francisco wishes it could be but never will be. And, I'll be going back to my second home in less than three weeks...:sunglasse
I LOVE AMSTERDAM! The people, the culture and of course the weed! I love the fact that you can walk everywhere in Amsterdam and still find somewhere where you've never been. Ohhhh, I could just go on forever!
Because the love of my life lives there.. because I can do my job there best (big city, lots of problems.. I work with problem youth).. because it has a great history and fantastic architecture.. because it has a vibe of freedom and openness.. Lots of reasons
because its where i fell in love with my boyfriend of two years all over again. because it opened my mind and changed the way i thought about everything. made me a much more loving and less judgemental person. although i feel all that creeping back again. i better scoot back over there for a top up!
because it's got such a great atmosphere... I don't live there, but I live in a small city nearby (amstelveen) and I love just walking around there.. looking at the free people... Amsterdam always gives me a sense of harmony... Get your discman/mp3 player/walkman/Ipod, put on some cool jazz and walk around the centre of Amsterdam, preferably around 8 or 9 at night... that's how I feel about Amsterdam
Because it's one place where I've felt like I'm in a completely different way of life, yet having a familiar feeling. Because of the friendly people I've met who have opened up their homes to me, even though we had never officially met before my arrival. And the fact that my first host didn't kill me when I kept her up all night with my snoring, although she did record it on her phone to play back later. The freedom to partake in harmless activities that are considered either taboo or illegal in my own home. Being able to just kick back in a public place and smoke a bowl. It's a simple pleasure, but one that I'm not allowed to do here. The architecture! I absolutely love the architecture and the history that of the city and country. I also appreciate the fact that I know very little about very little and being in Amsterdam has shown me that. Too many little things to list. I just love the lifestyle. It feels somewhat foreign to me, but at the same time there's a comfortable, familiar feel that appeals to me. I will be going back again. Just when the weather is a bit warmer.
There was a shooting at the spot i pick up a couple of weeks ago. Two guys tried to rob the dealers. Theres two holes in the lobby door and a small chunk of masonry missing next to the elevator. Thats why i love amsterdam. i love that song about the trees along the canals (en de bomen, dromen...) i dont know it but i can hum it. i love how amsterdammers always got a comment. i love the bikes and riding them at night. i love albert cuip and de pijp i love getting lost and not really caring
